Question: I recently purchased a couple of *GE 10W LED lamps for my lounge 'dangling cluster'. They replaced 2x 100W incandescents and with their output of 2700 lumens (2 x 1350), do the job well.

Would one of these run normally from a UPS? It occurred to me that if the power failed I might sit alongside the ONT and read. Or just contemplate the clutter on my computer desk.

Short answer Yes, you could run a desklamp with an LED bulb off a 240V UPS,

BUT, you will incur a conversion loss going from the 12V DC battery up to 240V AC and then through the bulb ( which likely has another AC/DC convertor)

Running a 12 V LED lamp directly out of the UPS would be the most efficient...

I got a couple of USB camping lamps from Amazon and a 12V to USB converter. Works well and with an 80W solar panel and a couple of 30AH batteries I'd have a bit of light and such during an extended outage.

We also have led lanterns running off C cells and a battery charger that works of 12V.

PolicyGuy:

I have a Constant Vigil Sentry Integrated device for my ONT & router, and it keeps them up and working for several hours (the web site says "6 Hour Support"), which is enough for most urban / suburban settings - if your power is going to be off for more than 6 hours, probably your lack of phone & Internet is going to be the least of your problems.
It's small, unobtrusive, reliable, made in NZ and well supported.
Buy one, you'll not regret it.

I also have a UPS which keeps my desktop PC, switch & WAP going for about 1/2 an hour.
These devices are (of course!) a long way from where the ETP, ONT & router are, so I can't use one UPS to power everything.

thank you for the pics it’s way easier seeing a set up in use. Really appreciate it

Thank you really appreciate the break down of options, I think I would need 6 hours max and need something small for a recessed cabinet , might look at option a :)

here is a sentry lite with a 12v22Ah battery in a 90mm wall mounted cabinet, its about as big of a battery as you can fit in there. have never tested to see how long it will last but i suspect at least 12 hours.
