Mauricio, given that everyone seems to have a pet dislike and distrust of speedtest.net's pings, could you try some "real" pings for us? Perhaps to Auckland, Sydney, L.A. ?

one of the main reasons.... "Ping on Speedtest.net is a bit different than a traditional command-line ping which uses ICMP. We are measuring the time it takes to get a response for an HTTP request sent to the server. The number will be higher than an ICMP ping"......

I question the accuracy of them calling it a 'ping' time then. Surely 'response' would be better.

And today I've swapped my XT Network SIM card from my handset to the Sierra Wireless 885 USB Modem. Automatic software installation, firmware update available (which was automatically detected by the software and took five minutes to download and apply).

Here is the user interface and the speed test results:

Meanwhile it's nice to see speed test reports (thanks Mauricio!) from an almost "empty" new network, which has not launched yet, please keep in mind: when subscribers will start to fill up the XT network, your speed could be significantly lower.

Bandwidth will be divided between users so the theoretical 14.4Mb/s maximum DL speed (HSPA) means if you have three cells in a base station (cell site) and each cell will have two people downloading data at the same time, your individual download speed will be 14.4Mb/s divided by 6 = 2.4Mb/s. Of course this is just a quick example how does it work, there are much more factors to be considered and believe me, there will be much more people in those cells too.

So comments like this:

harrylin: Download speed is shocking. Its speed is nearly on par with my home broadband, at 4.5mps. I'm afraid we will end up paying hundreds of dollar because we will be enjoying using super fast Internet for too long. If telecom doesn't increase data cap, this super fast download speed doesn't make much of a sense anyway.

And this:

harrylin: I will definitely be watching many streaming movies everyday by using skyfire on xt network. But the speed at 3Mps, it's more than enough to stream some HD quality video. I couldn't stream HD YouTube video over either Evdo or Voda hsdpa at1.2mps, not fast enough.

Let me say: very optimistic. And this is not trolling. I was using the 3G HSPA network of 3 in Sydney for a while and the maximum DL speed I could get was 1.8Mb/s or sometimes 2.1Mb/s max*. Which is very good for a mobile network and good for reading your emails or browsing the net or even to do a Skype call, but it's far away from the theoretical maximum speed of 14.4Mb/s. So no HD movie streaming, sorry.

*it was in the city so you will have higher speeds if you leave the high density urban areas.
