If your previous 027 wasn't on the XT network then your going to need a SIM card, since you didn't order it with your phone the fastest option would be to take it into a store once your get it and asked then about it. They can do it on the spot, which is how I got mine, I bought the handset at the same time (upgrade from a dead phone) so I got the SIM for free, can't guarantee you'll get the same buying separately.

If that doesn't work for you your best bet would be to ring (*)123 and ask telecom about it. Ether way once your talking to them they can sort you out.

Sorry to harp on about my R6 paperweight, but does anyone else have the issue where sometimes you look at your contacts when sending a msg and there is 2 entries for every person? Looks a little like:

Alan
Alan
Alice
Alice
Ben
Ben etc

It certainly happens if you have your contacts saved to the SIM and the phone. If you look at the little icons next to them, ones saved to the sim have a yellowy icon and ones saved to the phone are purply. Or maybe another color if they're catorgorised, I'm not sure.

They all have the yellowy sim icon next to them. It's like it's reading it twice... Turn the phone on then off again and it goes away...

Ok I'm pretty used to this phone now. Still, one thing annoys me that I can't do anything about: the FM tuner requires the 'headset*' to be plugged in as the antenna. This, of course, precludes using the FM tuner with the loudspeaker or bluetooth headphones.

Just felt like moaning, carry on...

Can I continue yours and my moan? I only really use it for texting, however when I do have the odd phone call I get a real bad echo of voice. It has happened more than once and I am not sure if it happens all the time as I don't use it that much. Anyone else?

This is standard across pretty much every handset manufacturer, the headset is used as the antenna for the FM Radio.

I think I mentioned it somewhere but we are aware of the double contact issue and are working on a fix. The easiest way to resolve the issue in the interim is to turn the phone off/on.
Whatever you do, DO NOT DELETE the duplicate entry.

If any customers experience things like echo or one way speech please please ring 123 and log a fault.

We cannot fix things we don't know about.

Include; where you were, what phone type you had, who you were talking to, what their number was, time of day.

But do you have any solutions for the people with problems listed in Geekzone  with all the R series mobile??    It seems that when you take the fone back to a Telecom store no one has any idea how to fix them.  The worst is when they  go into roaming mode and the only fix seems to be a factory default.  Not the best look..

Maybe so, but the phone handles a few different modes of bi-directional wireless communication internally, to then limit the usefulness of both the FM radio and the loudspeaker by excluding the 2 from working together is frustratingly shortsighted.

There wouldn't be many phones that support FM radio without headset as aerial...?
For a voice and text phone, I think the R6 offers above average features compared to other "branded" phones...

Ok, now that the below rant is out of my system: does anyone know how to edit the list of emergency numbers?

[rant]
Yes, and it makes the loudspeaker or wireless headset incapable of using the FM radio, which just seems stupid to me.

I also think it's txting capabilities are far inferior to the old nokia bricks, the buttons are too small, it's to easy to delete a message with no auto save or undo function, and you can't disable predictive so theres 4 options to scroll through when you want to switch between capitals/lower case/numbers. And, the lower case setting doesn't auto-cap the first letter at the start of a sentence. ALL of these things my old nokia could do, except it died and the handsets obsolete so I couldn't get a replacement.

Personally I see it as a 'tries to do everything and does it very poorly' phone. Rather have a limited feature set that worked well, but apparently those modals don't exist any more.
