I was on a call using friends iphone from Cambridge to Karapiro (I wasnt driving) and I was very impressed with the quality of the call throughout. I then made another call from my xt phone (samsung c5220) from the Tauranga turn-off to Tirau and again very clear call.

I have finally found somewhere without five bars of coverage with XT! funny enough it was at the beginning of dominion road on a side road on the way to Great north road where the railway lines are.

One bar of coverage, then nothing then it sprang back to life again with full coverage. Oh, and I had a single call failure today.

Apart from that it's been sweet as. For a new network it's performing pretty well, I'm so happy I'm moving to Telecom broadband Big Fun!

There allways has been bad Voda coverage in the Cook Strait but Telecom CDMA works fine. Dont have a XT Phone to test it out!

Vodafone now have a 900mhz 3G site pointing right across the cook strait

Kaiteriteri (Tasman Bay) ~ Bethany Park Camp.
20 plus laptops here all using mobile broadband access.

Vodafone 2G on the old Vodems & the new stick Vodems. (2.5 hours to download firefox)
There is a narrow band of 3G extended further up the road.

Telecom older Modems 2G, same speed as Vodafone.
Telecom XT Modems 3G. Up to 3 bar signal ~ 345 kbps download 8 p.m. yesterday.

Changed from Vodafone to Telecom XT 2 weeks ago :~)




MacBook Pro ~ OSX 10.7. Lion ~ XT 3G iPad 2 ~ XT 
Vodafone & CDMA mobile phones.

My experience with the XT network? TOTALLY UNHAPPY.

3 bars of signal on a 3G site and I get a loud, annoying, crashing sound that fades off. Even at 5 bars. This is with a new R90 mobile.

Last night while trying to contact my Boss about a job that was postponed, the call dropped with a signal of 4 bars.

I'm going to take this sodding mobile, and request my trusty old CDMA mobile back which NEVER gave me any grief.

I have a suggestion for Tui's billboards "97% coverage, Yeah Right"

Another reason why I can't stand the media with their attempts to really make something out of nothing. Guy has a problem with his phone (not the network), others make a few comments and somehow that translates into the network being crap, according to the reporter.


She should have visited this thread. Then again if she had have she would have had to write another story - no ratings if they're reporting the truth.

ha, i just read that article and thought the same thing.  


i have found a few dead spots on XT, they were on the back roads heading into te awamutu the other day. apart from that both me and my wife have been happy with the new phones on XT, she has the F480, and i have the S8300.

Speaking as a tourist over here for a couple of weeks, the XT network has been a lifesaver.

Got the 240MB plan for places where I don't have free Wi-Fi and everywhere I've been staying in NZ, Christchurch, Springfield and Hanmer Springs has had coverage so far. The only place I haven't had coverage was at the car park in Porters.

It's a little bit snappier than back home on Optus. It's great to be able to use Google Maps on the iPhone to get around.

I doubt the fault would be consistent over 8 different people I work with who have various other types of mobiles. So far everyone I've been dealing with is having the same issues.

Last night while on shift, my phone dropped 80% of the calls, and it definitely sounded network related. I heard the same issue when I was working as a cellsite tech years ago.

I'm going to take this POS phone back to Telecom and demand I get back on the CDMA network, I've had enough and NEED a reliable mobile phone and carrier. The CDMA network was fine, it did the job. Unfortunately I was forced into this upgrade by the company.
