I just gave this service a try. Sending and receiving texts was successful, but data didn't work at all. I didn't try using voice. Texts appeared to have a latency of a few minutes but I can't say for sure... maybe the person at the other end was just a slow replier!

i'll be flying these airlines. at least they offer voice calls. i don't think air new zealand allow voice calls. why must people pay for incoming calls? when you get an incoming call does it alert you that you will be paying?

When you connect to the network, you get a text from Telecom stating that roaming charges apply, with details on how to contact the roaming helpdesk for pricing information. It doesn't explicitly state that incoming calls are charged.

Because you're Roaming... can't get more roaming than being kilometers up in the air.

You've always paid for incoming calls while roaming so this is no different. There is no other way to recoup the cost of the call - you can't charge the person calling you more money for calling your number because you are overseas.

There is no message, if you don't want to answer calls while roaming then you can set your phone to divert all calls to voicemail.

I wonder whether they're having teething problems... the service was not available on either of my return flights. They specifically asked us to turn all phones off and didn't mention the service.
