Is there a way to find out if Telecom/Chorus will ever extend the exchange in our area, so there are more ports available for broadband?

I am currently a "port waiter" and they can't give me an estimate on when I will be able to get fixed-line broadband at my new place.

I don't really want to pay $81.51 per month for 4GB on Telecom's Mobile broadband.

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply, Steve.

My address seems to be so new that it does't appear in their database. So I looked up the address which is closest to me, and it appears that the ADSL2+ service will be available from June 2011.

Wish they offered me Mobile broadband at discounted rate while I am waiting...

Thanks again.

Nice one... my 3Mbit connection dropped out a couple of times this morning and magically came back as a 10 Mbit one. I guess that'd be that shiny new cabinet up the road coming to life. (I'm in Beach Haven, Auckland).

That's a good way to start the day!

Hi, thats good, but most cabinet implementations see line lengths reduced to around 2km max, this should see higher speeds, so maybe you also have a house wiring issue (or the cabinet is not fully up to speed yet).

What are your current modem line stats.

cyril7: What are your current modem line stats.

The modem thinks it's connected at 18853 kbps (see below). I'm getting just over 10Mbit down and 0.42 up to speedtest at WXC and about 8.5 to Vodafone's one. About the same to Brisbane too.

[DSL Modem Stats]
US Connection Rate:    488    DS Connection Rate:    18853
DS Line Attenuation:    11    DS Margin:        5
US Line Attenuation:    5    US Margin:        13
    US Payload :        15247248    DS Payload:        133296960
US Superframe Cnt :    199697    DS Superframe Cnt:    199697
US Transmit Power :    0    DS Transmit Power:    0
LOS errors:        0    SEF errors:        0
Errored Seconds:    69    Severely Err Secs:    1
Frame mode:        0    Max Frame mode:        0
Trained Path:        0    US Peak Cell Rate:    1150
Trained Mode:        16    Selected Mode:        1
ATUC Vendor Code:    494B4E53    ATUC Revision:    2
    Hybrid Selected:    1    Trellis:        1
Showtime Count:        6    DS Max Attainable Bit Rate: 18868 kbps
BitSwap:        1    US Max Attainable Bit Rate: 108 bps

The house wiring is undoubtedly a bit rubbish and needs a redo -- so far one electrician never came back with a quote and a second one moved to Whakatane before doing the job, so I'm not having much luck there :)

Hi, I had assumed the figures you stated were sync not speedtest. Your download is fine, but your upstream is poorly, should expect twice that, have you done an isolation test since this the cabinet has been commisioned. A poor uplink is a sign of a bad filter, so try disconnecting everything but the modem.

The DS noise margin is a bit odd to, what modem is this.

Yeah the upstream has halved since this morning which is a bit odd, it's normally around 800 kbps. I'll check out that filter, thanks. Modem is a Netgear DGFV338, about 2 years old.

Mine has dropped from 870 to about 200. Need to reboot my router again to confirm.

The fact that Telecom is charging $81 for 40GB is a cruel and unusual joke that only a third world basket case could ever justify - yet we have idiots in the ISP who think that '40GB is more than enough!".

I recall reading a few days ago the average American internet user only uses just on 15GB per month, and that's in a country with high caps. For many users 40GB is a massive amount of data.

I've just started using iSky, and can now imagine 4 flatmates all streaming iSky @ 2 Megabit for 20-30 hours a week... I think this is going to surge the average usage up in NZ...

But I agree, for most people 40GB is a lot.

I doubt that is actually possible. Sky will probably only allow one login per account,
