quite simply, any unlocked s2 will be fine for either telecom or vodafone, as long as the correct apn's are loaded, though this shouldnt be necessary.

and as per above from a few replies already, the sim will normally load the correct apn's, so you dont need to load them manually. i happen to have a telecom s2 and have sims from telecom, voda and 2 degrees. texts/pxts/data, the whole shabang work excellent on all sims.

xt = 850/2100 3g

voda = 900/2100 3g

2degrees = 2100 3g, and roams on voda outside of the specific 2degrees mobile zones.

s2 = quad band 3g/wcdma = 850, 900, 2100 and forgot the other band = covers all 3 networks = any sim will be fine.

best thing to do is ignore the quadband "gsm" element, it just seems to confuse people.

the telecom s2 has a few apps specific for telecom, just means they wont work if you pop your voda sim. i havent explored a voda s2, but id imagine maybe the same exisits on that handset.. no biggie pop in your xt sim and your away laughing as well, just a few pre programmed browser voda specific shortcuts/apps wont work or function.

so purchase any unlocked s2, telecom/voda, pop your xt/2degrees/voda sim in and enjoy the s2's goodness. if you get stuck, ask for help here :-)

Thanks very much for your informative post, and also to the others who have posted. I hadn't thought of having multiple sim cards, but I guess you could miss a call if you have, for example, a Vodafone sim in the phone at the time someone calls your Telecom number? I see that others have also talked about having multiple sim cards, so there is probably some merit in this idea.

I have just come across a Telecom deal of $0 upfront for the Galaxy SII and $100 a month (incl GST) for a 24-month plan. This gives 300 anytime minutes (non-business), 300 texts, and 2GB data per month. I realise you are in effect paying about $1100 for the phone and $1300 for data, texts, and calls, but I guess quite a few people would find this quite an attractive offer? The data of 2GB per month isn't too bad and would cover most of my internet usage.

ok well I bought mine from gadgetsonline although I went to their dominion rd shop as they had them in stock
On a Telecom no term monthly which suits me not being tied into a contract when phones are continually changing. In 24 months the SGS2 will be like the Palm or treo is now so think before you do that.

Put sim in and away it went. As to warranty, under CGA their warranty is an add on however it pays to ask where the phone will go to be fixed.

As to being able to use on XT, I did a lot of research on buying phone overseas and all of them were WCDMA 850 so not sure what some are on about in here.

AS to bloatware from Telecom, that's easy you can root and flash another rom easily enough but would suggest you use phone for a while before doing that.

Probably the only thing i don't like about the phone is its lack of bluetooth support for my laptop.

The Nokia pi$$es all over it.

keep in mind the SGS1 was originally released in march 2010, that's 18 months ago and it's still fantastic

Just a personal view here, but that's like any electronic device, gadget, mobile. I just recently bought a Macbook Pro. I could of waited until the new rumored design comes out. But I just wanted it :)

that was my point they date very quickly and 2 years contract is a long time in electronics so if you buy it thinking you have a good deal then thats fine, just need to put more thought into it other than what fits now as you can use credit card and have open contrct which means you have ability to move telco's and phones.

Thanks for your good advice. But, I guess there is nothing to stop you from selling your phone during the 24 month period? In other words, provided you keep honouring your side of the agreement and pay the $100 per month to Telecom, do you think you would be able to continue to use the data, text, and call allowances on a new phone during that 24 month period? I can see that it might pay me to read the agreement carefully to check on points like this!

good point Fed, yes you can just pout sim card in new phone. Not sure the contractual side of things but would think that its fine. The whole plan is very good but as I said I like the flexibility that open term gives me.

Which ever way you go I think you will enjoy the SGSII

I am planning to travel to Korea at the end of year, if "any unlocked s2 will be fine for either telecom or vodafone", that would imply it is a worldwide phone and the model sold in Korea uses the same radio as in NZ?
I've heard so many stories about Korean domestic phones not working overseas etc... (i think the reason is that they are a non-GSM country... which adds to my confusion.)
