I jumped for joy (literally) when I discovered what these were today (been a bit busy)

Gone is that 49c ripoff rate once you use your free minutes and having to use them all, I much, much prefer this system.

10c off peak is just fantastic!

This is what "you choose should have been! eat this Vodafone!  :-P

Flexi is really only suitable for customers who have constantly changing minutes and do spend a minimum of $45 per month. Many people would still be far better off on You Choose than Flexi.

True,  but that is only the case if people on the You Choose plans guess their minutes correctly.... If they go over their minute allowance, can get very expensive very quickly....

But it's not really that different to Vodafone. Flexi is ideal if you have *very* signicant changes in monthly usage - say 60 minutes one month and 200 the next. If you do have reasonably consistant usage You Choose offers far better options but the people who have varying usage is the exact market the product is aimed at - hence the name Flexi!

Flexi is also cheaper that the main stream Telecom Anytime Plans such as GO50 and GO100. (Ihavent check the others, but I am guessing the same result).

DKS1DR, if you have access the the Telecom exchange then you already have a tool at your fingertips, that does exactly that, althrough I havent checked to see if they have updated it with Flexi plans, and of course it only compared Telecom plans.

Though I must say a LOT of people have been burnt nastily by term contracts and the horrendously high penalties for "breaking" your contract, in australia, you basically get given a phone always and to get out is just a matter of paying retail for the cheap handset you got, not here, $500+ is common for the pitiful $50 discounts on hardware.

now it's even worse, no free bees, no free phone, no free modem...... just don't break that contract we put you on or we'll screw you over hard n fast....

I think the com com should be advised to the latest scam to hit our shores.....

In saying this i must applaud vodafone for making the fee's available on their website, also linked from the you choose info page with obvious links.

Telecoms hideous website has of course, absolutely no record of it, and our friend the search function is it's usual useless typical self the fact you have to join on a contract is also the last item in the terms right at the bottom of the page buried in the terms, funny that.......

When you say the Telecom exchange, I take you are meaning either the hub or sherpa???? Don't have access to the latter, being that I only work in a dealership....

I have just had a look at Vodafone's You Choose contract exit fees out of curiosity. It seems that anyone who takes a Choose20 or Choose60 plan on a 12 month contract faces a fee of between $65 and $15 if they end their contract early. In all honesty, I find this quite reasonable even for those who don't need a handset subsidy, so perhaps the lack of an open term option isn't as bigger deal as some have made it out to be.

Even so, Vodafone's failure to offer an open term option does send out a negative signal to its customers.

Sherpa is a sublink of the Telecom exchange, on which that tool is located. I'll check it out, and see if they have updated it to include Telecom Flexi. I'll see if I can send you the file?

You can get out of a "you choose 20" plan for just $40, I find that no problems,
Even $160 I saw for another option was not so bad a bit higher than the handset subsidy, not bad at all...... The bad news,

For a mytime Flexi plan, the early termination fee's are:

Within first 12 months
$500
12-18 months
$350
last 6 months
$185

the deal I saw last night, was offering $100 account credit.... so pay full price for a handset, then you have to $400 to get out of it ... ow.. that's unreasonable charging..

Stick with my open term 1996 6pm plan...

All of the sudden... Flexi plans sound great and simpler to understand but 24 months terrm contract and high termination fee... just doesn't add up well... :-(

The termination fees are the same for all tier 2 plans, and not just Telecom Flexi. But I do agree an open term option should be an option.

i believe the contracts are to retain you as a customer for the reason that, the biggest cost of having a customer is probably the setup at the start... the staff and paperwork involved in setting up a connection is quite involved.

If you got the best pricing with no contract so that you could chase the best deals, it could become uneconomical to continue to offer that pricing?

Just a theory... (which I think should hold true for any Telco/ISP)

You've hit the nail on the head.

The big question is why both Vodafone and Telecom aren't therefore offering deals to re-sign existing out of contract customers. Vodafone are really only interested in signing up You Choose customers if you're willing to buy a new 3G phone @ the same time by giving you $ off and 25% free airtime - if you're out of contract there is no incentive at all to resign becaause even though they aren't having to shell out those costs to sign up the customer they're offering you a few measly minutes free airtime.

On the same token Telecom are onbviously wanting to sign up customers onto term contracts as well before portability occurs yet for many low use customers who's 200 and 300 min plans are suiting them fine there again isn't the big cherry to resign.

And what happened to 6PM off peak!  I made two calls now, cost about 60c for both (instead of $6 probably) By 7 pm everyone is eating, cooking, made plans for the night etc, I'll never see why it's off-peak on landlines is 6-8 and mobiles 7-7!

Short contracts are fine, Long contracts are also no worries but when it's $500 to get out of a $30 plan, that's unreasonable by anyones judgement.

Shame as it's such a good plan. a 12 month contract or reasonable penalties on the 24 motnhs and they would hit the nail on the head.

Vodafone have all but abandoned high user off-peak with the removal of "get" plans and the forced "you choose"
Use your off-peak bundle minutes and it's back to peak-time pricing.

I should shut up now!

Wow! Vodafone have just scored a few points in my mind.

For me, You Choose only works out to be only slightly more cost effective than my existing Get70 plan, so I think I'll stick with what I've got for now and take up a 12 month You Choose contract as soon as my handset needs replacing. That way, I can make use of the handset subsidy.
