tallmaninthecnr: We are currently on the Total Home Lite package and would be looking to change to the new $85 plan. Our usage runs till October 21st can you tell me what would happen if we changed now, or should we wait till Oct 22nd - from what I see if we changed now we would end up paying both for the old plan and the new plan.

it would be pro-rated according to your bill cycle.
so if, for example you were 10 days into your current plan you would pay 10 days of the old plan and 21 days of the new plan.

Thanks had a chat with a nice bloke online who confirmed this as well. Just a little confused now as to how our statement period does not seem to align with the dates I see on my Broadband usage period?

No need to wait, you can change now.
What you'll see on your bill would likely be:
-a credit back of your old plan from tomorrow until the 21st.
-a charge for your new plan from tomorrow until the 21st

What was alluded to before is that on the new plans, if you change plan WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH ONLY you will NOT get the credit back for remaining portion of the month. Once you're beyond that first month, then you'll get the usual pro-rata credit when you change plan.

I wouldn't worry about that - it is a peculiarity created by Telecom having two billing systems.

I switched to the new plans --- but, telecom re-enabled interleaving on my connection during the switch over.

My connection speed decreased, and ping speed increased from 14ms to 40ms with interleaving reenabled.

Quick phone call to telecom and it's being fixed.

Telecom support is pretty good.

Just something to watch for . Although, you notice pretty quickly that the pings/speed worsen.

This isn't as good as a deal I currently have with Vodafone. :)

$85 a month for 160GB, Free MYSKY, un-metered iSKY, Free Calling to One Mobile, with landline. :)

Yyrael: I'm not saying it will never happen, but the approach at this stage is that with less plans it's easier for customers, as opposed to having 20 plans with 80 bolt-ons where everyone just gets generally confused ^_^

I don’t think it is confusing at all, especially if you select the option to create you own plan. http://www.telecom.co.nz/packages/packages/plansandpricing/createyourown/

Distorter: This is nice to see, but like others have said the jump from 150GB to 500GB is strange 250GB or 300GB needs to be in there as well.

I agree with you that Telecom needs a plan somewhere between 250GB to 300GB, it would be great to hear from one of the Telecom representatives who post on this forum.

standard VF pricing for 160GB (with all that stuff) is $125 ($95 on promo right now for 80GB with $30 for the data double to 160GB.

so either you are mistaken with how much you pay, or you are getting $40 (roughly 1/3) off the standard price.

I am not mistaken, I can confirm I get all of the above for $85 a month. :-) Which is an amazing deal.

Alas this deal is only available to current Vodafone Customers with more than 2 years loyalty. I was offered this deal to stay with them and thus I have Free Double Data forever and get $5 off, some have even been lucky to get the 5 Best Mates for free and Broadband Credit and/or new Modems. Vodafone value loyalty so if you stay with them for long you'll get a good deal.

1) If i switch, will data start being metered or is the tivo metering system still making everything unlimited? (still showing 0mb here)
2) Will it end up charging up till this point on the current plan, and then the rest of the month on the new plan? ie not charged any extra for switching part way through the cycle?

I'll take your word for it. Time to grab the phone.

edit: plan changed. Stressed that i wanted interleaving to stay off.

They then called back and confirmed that talk it up downunder was to be removed.

I changed plan and my ping went from 18 to 42ms.

I'll ring them and ask for interleaving to be turned off, wondered what caused that.

My speeds have remained about the same.
