wasabi2k: interesting they are limiting upload to 20Mbps - I am currently on 100/50. Doubt I would care.

Time to cancel the home phone line I think - only calls I get are from telemarketers, people after donations and the in-laws.

Do they provide routers with gigabit ports on them? Would seem silly to sell a 200Mbps service with 100Mbps ports.

Its now 100/20 with most ISPs as the wholesale price of this plan is much lower than the original 100/50 plan.

vexxxboy: wow thats a good price , $50 cheaper than Snaps unlimited deal for the same thing. Tempting.

oops thought it was 200 up not 20 but still tempting as i dont need the 200 up.

Keep in mine Snap were just bought by 2degrees and have indicated new plans are on the way. Snaps plans are due for a refresh anyway.

kiwi_64: Does anyone know how the physical 'landline' (voice) cabling will actually work?
I have implemented my own structured wiring solution in my house.  I have the ONT in the garage with patch-panel and the modem/router (Asus) in the study.
I had previously understood/assumed that the VoIP solution was going to be implemented from one of the modem/router ports, but note a reference in this thread to the voice coming directly off the ONT instead.
I'm happy with either, but keen to know.
Thanks

I have a Spark VoIP connection at home which was connected a few weeks ago for testing purposes, and can advise the voice service comes directly off the ONT through the TEL socket, not off the router. I have a patch cable plugged from the ONT to the adjacent jackpoint which livens up the existing house wiring with the voice service.

If I only required one phone handset it would be plugged directly into the ONT rather than the patch cable.

OK ... that makes it easy... thanks

Probable dumb question. How do I switch from 30/10 to 100/20 plan?

I select 'upgrade your data' but that's just switch from 500gb to unlimited. Do I select 'upgrade your broadband ' and go through the whole check address process ? (Even though I have had fibre installed for ages)

Awesome, I just got the 100/20 fibre plan with Spark too. What does it get changed to again?

Choose upgrade your broadband. In my case the system was still showing me on VDSL, even though I've been on Fibre for a couple of weeks. So it was attempting to send me another modem etc. Online chat got me connected to call centre, where they quickly changed my plan, and got the Fibre Landline underway.

If your phone service is on copper at present (which I assume it is) you will need to 'upgrade your broadband' to VoIP at the same time as requesting one of the new speed profiles (100/20, 200/20 or Gigatown 1000/500). My understanding is you cannot switch to one of these new speed profiles while retaining copper voice.

When selecting 'upgrade your broadband' on the website, you select your new data plan (if required) followed by the desired speed profile. When I tested this just now I needed to enter my phone and account number, and was then directed to a page on the Downer website to fill in additional details (I assume this varies depending on your location). Your answers here will dictate whether a technician visit is required or not. If you choose to plug your phone into the ONT only, and do not require all your jackpoints to be patched to the ONT, you will not require a technician visit. If you select this option Spark will also send you a complimentary DECT cordless phone.

If in doubt, contact our friendly online chat team, or give the call centre a go.

Note that these new products were only revealed to the vast majority of Spark staff this morning, so we are all getting our heads around the processes for these new products.

I couldn't complete the online form, and was put in touch with the call centre via the online chat (see my post above). This offer wasn't mentioned. Will I need to get back in touch with them to receive this offer? From memory, it wasn't discussed whether I would need phone wiring connected.

Id prefer to keep copper voice and just get a simple fibre plan changed.
Still kinda negative about waiting 3 months for technicians to finally show and install fibre in the first place.

Why couldn't they of just wired up the phones during UFB install? Seems like a job half done.

Hi,

I'm currently on the ADSL unlimited plan with the $14/month national calling. It looks like I can move up to 30/10 and still pay the same price or even go onto the 100/20 and pay only $10 more/month? If this is right i'll 99% do this

That is correct - the new Spark pricing has been specifically designed thus:
Fibre 30/10 is now the same price as ADSL
Fibre 100/20 is the same price as VDSL
The bolt on calling options remain unchanged

Note that as far as I am aware, you can only take up 100/20, 200/20 or Gigatown 1000/500 speeds if you switch your phone service (if you have one) from copper to fibre VoIP.

Hmm I will have to look into this for you. I was cautious before mentioning this, and I ran through the order process for real online before I did to make sure it was live.

Spoke to a nice lady at Spark, got my upgrade sorted out in <10mins after logging into the website, got a callback from them virtually instantly as the Downer page was crashing on me.

No mention of a free DECT phone so will be interesting to see if one turns up. Presumably I'll be emailed the instructions about unplugging the loopback wire from the phone splitter and plugging it into the ONT instead for the VoIP :)

Going from 100/50 500GB to 200/20 Unlimited is now costing me $10 _less_, the only downside being I lose my static IP which is a bummer, but I'll just have to work around it with DynDNS.

I don't _need_ 200mbps, but more for less is a no brainer.
