After all that, it's still not really cheap. $130 a month for FibreMax unlimited and the Unplan Entertainment plan. I won't be re-signing today.

For us, happy with 100/20, making Netflix a permanent fixture of the entertainment plan would have been enough for me to have remain with Spark, had I known this would be coming - $95 is $5 less a month than what I'll be paying at 2 Degrees, when factoring in the additional $15 we will need to continue to pay for Netflix. There's also the hassle of chasing these deals, given the bonuses are usually time-limited.

Bad timing for us - announced about 10 days after we signed up to shift!

It'll be interesting to know if these plans provide any insurance over potential increases in Netflix charges; given the recently announced increases in the US, if (or, more accurately, when) these hit NZ, I wonder if Spark's deal with Netflix changes up and whether they can pass any increase on to their customers.

Do you have landlinewith 2degrees?

$85 plus $15 for phone.

If so Spark would cost $85 (base cost) +$10(landline cost)+$10 (Entertainment)+$4(upgrade 30/10 to 100/20) = $109, $9 more expensive then 2degrees.

Did you get the Amazon TV deal and $200 joining credit? If so don’t see why any regrets.

Edit: Factor in cost of Netflix (I missed that bit) Spark cheaper by $6 a month, with $200 credit though and Amazon offer still winning with first year at 2degrees. Also free tolls and better smart phone services 2degrees.

I wouldn’t have left Spark if current deal on table, hassle changing providers and don’t know what 2degrees long term offers will be if any.

With the $200 joining credit @2degrees on a 12 month term, and Amazon Prime Video included, its a no brainer. Unfortunately without a 'joining bonus' Spark just doesn't stack up.

I don't understand why the standard Spark Unplan plans require a 12 month term, what's the bonus/benefit for being locked in for 12 months? Usually a contract term includes an incentive...

Stu:

@hio77, if you can pass it on to the right people:

Yup. Your right. Those bits caused quite some havoc. I'll have it fixed. Edit; looks like it's been fixed :) apologies, when i got home this morning i was done for the day, it was a long night!

Thanks for the feedback all. Fibre 100 is slightly cheaper with entertainment.

Is there any benefit for me changing to Unplan? I don't need any entertainment add-ons or anything, just (fibre) broadband.

There is a benefit if you go on holiday for awhile.

I wont comment on direct costings as you may be on a previous deal or such.

I had six months half price, but that's expired and I'm back to $104 a month now (I think). I don't normally go anywhere on holiday though, so it might not suit me.

Why is there no Unplan Entertainment for VDSL customers? Fibre is not available here yet, I doubt any gamers would want to take 4G over VDSL2.

I'd love Unplan for copper. It may still happen... Not my desision to make.

The split comes down to technology stacks, so it's not as simple as ticking a box persay.

@quickymart: based on that $104, which is what my Spark monthly charges have just jumped up to after my 12 month contract ended, I assume you're on 100/20 fibre w/o phone?

Given Unplan is $85 for unlimited 100/20 fibre, that would mean a $19 reduction in monthly charges compared to your current plan.

Of course, you could probably save more if you switched ISPs, but if the hassle doesn't interest you then signing up to the Unplan for a year is still going to save you $228 over remaining with your current plan.

Have you checked out the full details? If not, they're here: https://www.spark.co.nz/shop/internet/plans.html

Am I reading it correct that you no longer get the $10 discount for having your mobile on a pay monthly plan with Spark as well?

This has never been an option on unplan.

Don't actually see any benefit in changing to the Unplan. We are currently on the FibreBASIC Naked Broadband - Unlimited GB with Lightbox & Netflix already for $94.99 pm, switching to the unplan with same features is effectively same price $95 pm, So no real point, and tbh, would end up on a stupid contract, which we don't have at present.

Am I missing something somewhere? I'm already looking at other ISP's and their respective offers.
