Is there a trick and/or delay getting 5G Enabled on your service? Was travelling through Dunedin yesterday and couldn't see to get my 12 Pro to switch to 5G at all (Spark Retail service using eSIM)

I am also curious because iirc Orcon Mobile use Skinny/Spark.

Regarding rollout - can’t comment here, until they are are publicly announced....

Interms of handsets - unless it’s been one that has been specifically launched by spark we cannot guarantee it will work. Other *may* work, but unfortunately it is a case of your mileage will vary.

Regarding Skinny - we’re working hard on ensuring that they are (usually) the same time as Spark, however differences in configs mean it maybe slightly out of step - but generally will get there....

Thanks for the reply.

I imagine that it should just work as it has the bands but of course as you say mileage will vary. Would be happy to experiment and field test it considering Oneplus phones are underrated but again I imagine it's a "your mileage will vary" and it's a bit more complicated.

I went into Dunedin Spark store last Friday and asked the staff help me to enable 5G on my account. It is just few mouse clicks and airplane mode on/off. The coverage is very limited, I was able to get 5G in the Spark store(city center) and back to 4G in Roslyn which maybe 1km away from Spark store. Haven't seem my phone pick up any 5G since last Friday :-P

Maybe it will be better to not receive 5G signal since I read current 5G modem(like the X55 iPhone 12 using, and the X52 my phone using) runs very power hungry and hot.

Snapdragon 765G has it integrated and isn't as demanding. There are some phones that do use management to balance 5G and 4G usage(iPhones 12 series does this by default).

Best case of this is that it won't try and use 5G unless you're downloading something huge.

Hopefully we'll see more SoCs integrate it including Apple.

That's a strange looking iPhone 12. Didn't know Apple made Oneplus editions of them :P
