quite funny really - all this time to get a bluetooth phone (normal size) to market. and it gets suspended from sale for nothing to do with the bluetooth, which by all accounts is working great.
I think this i'll be a couple of weeks! in the meantime, most the phones are fine- it's about Telecom trying to make sure customers get the best possible device Telecom can provide!
well - there are some parts of their bluetooth implementation that is driving me batty, and means the phone can't live unattended at the bottom of my bag like my old gsm did, but....
the comparitive speed of CDMA data makes it all worthwhile.
I find it really interesting as we have far more people complaining about the calls going straight to cell sec fault on the Sanyo P2T phones than the problem with the Nokia. However I understand that the Sanyo fault only occurs in specific regions, only of the cell sites have had some upgrade done to them. However from the customers prospective it dosent look like Telecom are doing much to remedy that one.
When I had my first Nokia 6255 that didn't seem properly provisioned (i.e. network logo wasn't there and seemed to have a corrupted gallery) I too had the issue of the phone turning off. Funny that you should mention some issues on some cell sites because when I was running around in the Wellington region with the buggered phone, it would work fine but when I made a trip to Taranaki, all along the trip it would turn off. I put it down to giving up after finding no signal (pathetic behaviour if it was) but put it down to the phone being whacked. Since I've had mine replaced (five days after I actually got the phone when it was released) I haven't had the chance to do another trip and see whether it was that single unit or not.
You know there's no signal out at my place. The phone doesn't go to sleep. Once i leave the sticks (vogeltown), all my smses arrive in rapid succession without any intervention required.

Me........... As far as I am aware, the Sanyo 7400 calls-going-to-voicemail issue is all sorted. (Telecom have announced that it is). If its not sorted for you, then your problem needs to be escalated within Telecom.
Hi Disinchanted- As far as I am aware fault with Sanyo continues. Last news I was told (Monday) was that the techs thought they had a fix and were trialling it in Wellington. If successful it was to be rolled out across the country. As yet I have not heard if it has been working or not.
How odd. I have a 7400 which i love to bits. It does suffer the voicemail problem on a very regular basis (but I am a very busy person, so lots of my calls go unanswered anyway - so no big deal for me)
Yeah I have the 7400 as well and have no problems at all. Yet a workmate has the same phone and he can be sitting at his desk and we can ring it three times in a row and it goes straight to message service. He has had the software upgrades and had it replaced once but it made no difference. Lucent tech told me it is something to do with the paging channel that the phone monitors. Some number groups monitor a second paging channel and this is where the problem occurs. But then I have been told a lot of things about this fault and not sure what is what. Fingers crossed it will be solved once and for all soon.
Just logged in haven't been on for a while, But as everyone knows I waited for this phone for 6 months after hearing about it on the rumour mill.
I love the phone and am reasonably happy with it.
BUT:
I think it is very poorly programmed. Who was responsable needs their butt kicked in my humble opinion.
Just unessesary things like.
The radio doesn't go on speaker but the music player does?? and the manual says it should!!
The music on radio and Music player sounds awsesome through the headphones in the bottom port but rubbish through the headphone jack?? Tested 2 different headsets in the telecom shop.
You can't access the "open gallery" folder to assign ring tones or recordings to individual people when in the contacts/custom tone menu??
You can't save to the drafts folder from the inbox??
You can't choose to have the first line of a txt shown like in the drafts folder in the Archive folder. Which is why I save to the drafts folder. ( yes i have found a long way around to get my jokes to the drafts folder)
In the folder list in messages there is a folder called "my folder" where you can create folders aswell. But why dont we get access to save to this in the options menu when in a txt
The back light can't be set to stay on when flip is open.
The wording on the screen with a dark background should change colour??? I have chosen to have no screensaver as you simply can't read the date etc???
The little button that records sound segments keeps getting knocked or pressed by mistake and my sounds folder keeps filling up with recordings of nothing?? The delay is far to short!!
There are a few more issues but all of the above would make the phone so much better and seem to me to be so simple to fix with a bit of extra thought B4 release. I can't for the life of me see how all of the above can't be put right by better programming!!
Do you guys think I should write to telecom or nokia and list the issues and my suggested fix?
on all other nokias, the radio will go on speaker if you have the headphones plugged in.
This is becuase the unit requires the headphones to be plugged in to act as an aerial.
Havent tried the the 6255 for this function, I assume its the same.
Most definitely write a letter to Nokia and CC it to Telecom.
My single biggest gripe with the phone, is not being able to send sms via bluetooth. Most GSMs with bluetooth (including nokias) let you compose a sms on your PC or PDA, and then send via the phone - likewise they let you pull the messages off the phone to your pda for archiving.
the 6255 doesn't respond to the standard GSM commands for these actions.
oh, and the bluetooth never disconnects. A BT headset must be connected to the phone b4 a call arrives, otherwise you can't use it for the call. - BUT, if the headset is connected nothing else can connect. i have to navigate the phone menus to disconnect the headset before i can connect with my pda. I've owned several sony-ericsson before this 6255, and none had that limitation.
The phone is the first cdma with bluetooth, and i'm very pleased someone did that finally. i'm even more pleased it was nokia, and not a company like gtran or audiovox. (There's rumours of other bluetooth cdmas on the web)
Thanks Disenchanted,
If there is a reason for something fair enough. And the Headphones acting as an aerial is a very good one, looks like nokia wins that one. And the speaker does go when the phones are plugged in so that explains that.
