Yup they'll switch me to another plan, I got the same letter everyone else did. If I change to big time, after the first three months i'm going to have to pay an extra $20 because telecoms toll rates aren't as cheap as the one I currently have.
The customer rep that I spoke to on the phone said "If we release you from the contract would you return your wireless modem?"... I agreed, but then whoever his boss was that day, said no, that they won't release me.
It's only unfair because I had wireless for such a short time, and then I have to get stuck with a plan that I might not like, and I won't be able to change ISP's unless I pay telecom's fee.
It's possible you could win release from the contract via the disputes tribunal given the situation, you may have a strong case.. I don't know for sure you'd have to research it. Start with www.consumer.org.nz.
Perhaps ring them up again and tell them you are looking into taking them to the disputes tribunal they may suddenly change their mind on returning the modem/dropping the contract.
However Big Time is the same plan as Go Large just with FS upload instead of 128 kbit and the option to get interleaving turned off for lower latency, so it's basically Go Large but better for $10/month more.
Yeah... I wish... I've a cousin who is a contract lawyer... and she put me on to consumer.org... and I think it's called telecommunications complaints... hmm. I will check again, but I don't think I have any chance. Thankyou for that though.
