Leading Edge is not a Telecom store - it is a dealership. Telecom would have communicated the deal to Leading Edge. Leading Edge not passing on the information to all their stores is not really anything Telecom could do anything about.

Nah not if you are using it with XT. If you wanted to use it with Vodafone/overseas, it'd be good to reflash it with the standard ZTE software, so you could reconfigure the APNs and get rid of the telecom branding. I'm not fussed though, XT is fine for my needs for now :)

This is from the Pre-paid boardband page....

"Prepaid Mobile Broadband is available on a casual rate but we recommend you sign up for the 500MB pricing option so you can keep better control of costs."

"On this 500 MB plan you'll be charged 10c per MB for the first 300 MB and the next 200 MB are free. If you do not exceed the first set amount of the eligible data usage, you will only be charged for what you use that month and not the monthly fee. "

So as far as I can tell, if you use 5 meg it will cost you 50 cents. Not sure why anybody would do the casual rate as you are at no risk signing up for the $29.95 deal as you are only charged when you use it. (unlikely voda)

I got mine this morning, will be cancelling out of my 24 month Vodafone contract at 12-months and switching to XT.

For anyone interested, I just pulled mine apart and on the back there is a connector for a 3g/HSPDA aerial :) woohoo, think I'll internal mount mine soon in my netbook

I had no intention of getting mobile broadband but Telecom's deal won - Tivo won too.

Just out of curiosity has anybody tried a Vodafone sim in it?

(PS. Just got mine from the Feilding, Leading Edge)

EDIT: Just got in contact with a Telecom rep, who told me that due to the nature of the promotion, it would most likely be locked.. Just about to try it in a a minute with a VF sim though.

its wcdma 850/2100 so not ideal for VF but should work if reflashed.

Telecom stand in Westfield Chartwell (Hamilton) has a good supply, lady said something about 45,000 units total to give away

Wow. When I originally saw this offer, I thought woopie, cheap stick but whats the contract like! I can't believe that there's no contract and it's so cheap - and on NZ's fastest mobile network.

Telecom keep hitting it out of the park this year, first XT then Big Time, now Tivo and then this!

So you don't know the exact reason why it didn't work, yet you're willing to call nzbnw wrong? Did you check the APN was set correctly?

Also it's "you're".

Edit:

I just tried my device on 2degrees, admittedly it was purchased before the promotion. Worked fine. I needed to manually select the network and made sure the APN was set to "internet". I have my doubts that Telecom would have specifically locked the devices for this promotion.

Perhaps:

* The band / network selection is incorrectly set? With Vodafone you'll need to have 2G/3G enabled with 900mhz GSM and 2100mhz WCDMA...

* The APN haven't been changed to vodafones (remember, these default with internet.telecom.co.nz, not internet.vodafone.co.nz)

* Some other factor such as coverage or SIM not being inserted correctly.

Given previous statements, I'd really doubt that these are SIM locked.

I apologize for saying that people were wrong, although I did say "didn't work, for whatever reason."
I did attempt to try using the APN's I found in a different thread, which is the same as the one's mentioned here, however as I said "didn't work, for whatever reason." and how is it narrow-minded if i'm going by what the person at the dedicated support centre for the T-stick said (even though they are usually wrong...)

Really, probably just a dead sim card :(
