I am so confused by tc website ...

1) how many prepaid plans are there ... What is the difference (std rate of 44c only on smart pre pay)

2) how much does international sms cost

1) 2, Smart Prepaid, 44c base rate, you can't add favourites. Pay as you go, 69c base rate and you can add favourites.

2) 30c.

Hmmm, this seems like a good deal, but I wonder if post-paid plans will be changing too? Ideally I would like more data.

Does changing to this plan take place immediately, or from the end of the current period?  I don't want to waste what I still have left to use.

Sounds awesome; I'm going to wait till my TextDataTalk pack runs out on 9 September and sign up for the $19 Big Value Pack - has everything I need especially when it comes to data and talk time :)

Immediately (well within a few minutes usually). If you have the older incrementally billed extras, these will be removed. However if you have any existing subscriptions you pay up front for these will remain. You may wish to cancel the auto renew for these existing extras.

Surely 2 Degrees are going to combat this somehow, they are going to lose a lot of customers if they don't. Most people I know are on 2 Degrees combo's that end next month and they are all jumping over to Telecom's new combo.

For me its a given, better reception on Telecom at my home and my work was simply with 2 Degrees because they offered the better deal.

The biggest thing that will stop people switching is that 2degrees has 900mhz capability as well as 2G, far more common than telecoms 3G 850mhz frequency.
And high end users with phones that are quad band 3G are often on pay monthly plans.

But i agree, they will need to release something to compete. Vodafone has the same $19 combo as 2degrees now too, and another option at $25.

I would say by the end of the promo period there will be something even better, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Not really worried about it - actually I think its really good that there seems to be a lot of jockeying for our money from the Telcos. I think I will stay with 2degrees in the meantime. Lets be honest, if it wasn't for them coming into the market, we'd still be on the same overpriced plans from Vodafone and Telecom.

Come on Vodafone - "do your thing" and try and outdo 2degrees....."as if".

And Telecom have just texted me to tell me they have upped the data on the BIG Value Pack by 100MB. Now 500MB. You've gotta love competition!
