Thanks for the link.

I found these quotes interesting:
"... meaning they should result in faster and/or cheaper mobile broadband plans with higher data caps."

and:
"The wide-scale deployment of 4G networks awaits the release of 700MHz spectrum, which will be freed after analogue television shuts down."

I found this interesting too:

"Retail chief executive Chris Quin said in May that the trial would be in Auckland and Wellington and in some smaller centres and regions."

Although compared with Auckland, "smaller" could be anywhere!

Also
"Telecom might not take the equipment down afterwards, meaning the trial could evolve into the full commercial launch of a 4G network."

You could have always connected to Vodafone's LTE network in Auckland that clearly wasn't locked down properly last week and allowing any device to connect. Posting on the Vodafone forums about this like this person did was clearly the right thing to do to get the loophole closed!

How do I sign up for the trial? That would give me a reason to upgrade my s2!

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

According to the 4G FAQ you can sign up here, however that link just takes me to the home page. Does it work for you?

At the end of year financial announcement from Telecom one Aussie analyst asked the CFO how much capex was put aside for an LTE rollout next year.

He said none. At that point Telecom was only trialling 4G/LTE and had no money set aside for an actual launch.

This was quite a surprise as we'd walked in to the Telecom building through doors emblazoned with 4G logos.

I would presume Simon Moutter would change this once he's got his strategy launched, but for now Telecom is trialling 4G only with no plan to launch a network in the next financial year.

Meanwhile, over at 2D and Vodafone...
