I agree completely however the fact Spark chose to stick with yahoo for so long and after so many issues reflects badly on them and doesn't dissolve them from all fault.

I'm glad to see the migration is taking place, however the time taken to do so was poor.

And being blocked for suggesting moving away from yahoo years ago has left a bad taste in my mouth about them ever since.

Yet here I am signing up to a 1 year contract with them... lol

Seems to me to be extremely poor planning if they only last week worked out whats been happening.
This should have been laid out & explained day1 of the announcement to move off yahoo. Not wait till email fails then say your system is too old

Sure, cant blame Spark for people using obselete systems, but thats the NZ we live in . Many using xtra will be
on old systems , thats the xtra customer base .

Can blame Spark for not knowing this would happen: obviously too little discussion with there new NZ email host : is a minimum client spec too hard to ask for ?? Planning , lack of .

So now we have to deal with clients/friends/family who have not & will not upgrade the PC & want email working.
Xtras help page implies that XP will not be supported not matter what version of Outlook they have , is that correct?
Has anyone tried a recent version of Outlook to see if that works ?

Thunderbird opens up a whole new raft of user issues , one being that its too damn hard to migrate data from TBird back to Outlook if the user does later
actually upgrade to a new system .

Yes I agree this is a big contrast to back in the Telecom days (2014) during which they gave 6-9 months notice for the smtp.xtra.co.nz switch off. They even went around and called affected customers, I remember receiving three calls from their helpdesk advising me I was still sending email through the relay and was offered assistance with changing mail client settings. From what I understand increasing volumes of queries regarding fibre installation have since consumed their helpdesk.

I sincerely hope they are prepared for the MTA and mail filtering switchover, I imagine since the hacks Yahoo's filtering must be a patchwork of bandaid solutions stopping forged headers, phishing attacks and other social engineering. I hope the SMX filtering solution can adapt to these unique requirements of the Yahoo switchover and filter these types of messages out.

Darwall:

So it seems to affect Outlook Express and older Outlook XP too, we have been busy installing updated clients like Thunderbird on computers to get them up and running.

After contacting Spark have confirmed to us that they wont be fixing this issue and upgrading the client is the only way to get emails working again. Good fun!!

Can spark really do this? ? refuse to fix it?

add office 2010 running on WinXP and possibly vista too.

Mail Store Home - Pumps mail and data beautifully.  Stores it, searches it nad moves it everywhere.

either that or download xampp, instlal it, run up the mail server, connect TBird or outlook to it, upload files, then reverse the process. Keeps it on the local machine so quick as disk access.
