Yes you can't do that. It is in their T&C's that it can only be used in mobile phones.

I’d love for them to try dispute a tablet or laptop using their SIM directly is NOT a “mobile” device. After careful reading of the T&C’s they never once mention “mobile phone”... just “mobile” 🤔

Yes because everyone goes around saying "i am just going to take my mobile laptop or my mobile tablet to the park" We all know when they say mobile they mean mobile phone.

So can someone get this plan and be a guinea pig and see what happens when you tether? Does it actually prevent you? If so what happens if you change your Default TTL from 128 to 65

Going by twitter they have seen that people are not happy with the no tether thing and going to look into it.

I know it’s slightly different but I have a mate who used over 100gb on the Skinny Direct unlimited plan, and regularly tethers his phone using the data binges and uses 200+ gb of data. He’s never been pulled up or lost connection. So I don’t think they’re enforcing this actively. However, it’s possible that they will start to get more strict on it now that more people will sign up.

I heard through a mate that Vodafone is coming out with a similar priced plan offering 25gb mobile data.

So I tried tethering my OnePlus 3 to my laptop and got this message when trying to visit a website:

Needless to say, Spark is actively blocking tethering (not sure if Skinny is doing the same). I was hoping they'd allow at least some form of limited tethering as opposed to blocking it outright.

Unfortunately, @Coil's build.prop workaround isn't working for me, looks like Nougat has stricter anti-tethering controls.

At this rate I might just go back to my $59 plan and make do with limited data but with tethering allowed.

Both block tethering and have mde this very clear since the product was launched months ago.

Offering limited tethering would be a very challenging thing to offer. I'm not sure if they have any way of doing this based on different TTL's as it would become a nightmare.

Someone I know who's on this plan is able to tether using his iPhone to his Windows laptop. I have a Mac and nope I'm not as lucky as him...

Thanks, for some reason I was under the impression that this plan was replaced with the unlimited plan. Didn't realise they still offered it, I might just switch to it instead. 7.5 GB is plenty for me. :)

Just to clarify I myself don’t condone breaking the TOS or stealing data - I have been on freedom since it came out and never tethered my phone or abused the plan. Was just weighing in since I found the fact he was able to actually do this quite interesting.

As for seperate tethering data - I wonder if it’s possible spark could give you some data separate for tethering and you could then switch it on when you need to tether, then turn it off to revert back to regular unlimited mobile only data? Could work but might get too complicated logistically.
