Technofreak: Re the free Yahoo Pro Mail I think what is being referred to as being free is access to the Yahoo Pro mail webmail function not your Xtra mail. As someone else mentioned try adding more Xtra accounts than whats in your base allocation and see if it's free.

And your base allocation is 11 free mailboxes ... why would you need more?

A business probably would, but then again why would a business use an ISP email address that is using yahoos free service. They should buy a domain and proper email hosting.

The number of vans / cars I see driving around that advertise their business on the side with their website URL and an ISP supplied email address... How silly is that!

I've never seen anyone outside of IT call email "mission critical", it is however convenient, and some messages are more important than others.
Making excuses about relative importance of the email issues, doesn't change the fact they aren't fixed and have been going on for longer than any others ISP's mail problems, that I can think of.

MurrayM: I've got a client that uses Xtra as her ISP and also for sending / receiving email. For the last few days she has been having trouble sending email, she gets the following bounce-back messages (email addresses have been obscured to protect the innocent):

This doesn't happen to all the messages she sends, some get through ok (i.e. to me) but she has had similar errors from different ISP's.

Still got a client with Xtra that is not recieving emails from outside and some outbound emails arrive and some don't. (she tested sending in from her home account to the business acount)

Absolutly pathetic that this has been going on for days and all you get on Telecoms website is:
"Some Xtra customers may be experiencing intermittent delays in email delivery, due to a technical issue. No emails will be lost and all email eventually be delivered to the indented recipients.We want to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience this causes."

Utter rubbish, emails had been bouncing last week, all they have appeared to of done is turn off the TTL
Its not inconvenience, it is potentially lost sales for the business and poor customer service. Some people only expect to deal with a business by email and if the business never returns an email, some will not bother to phone, they will just assume the business is slack and does not want their business.

I think one reason is that some businesses can be quite tight, and they think that as their ISP provides one, why should they fork out more money for another email address or buy a domain and email hosting.

Also I think a lot of small businesses start off using an ISP supplied email address because they don't know any better and when they get more established and set up a website they realise that all their stationary still has their old ISP email address on it and they worry that if they change it then they'll lose messages. And not all ISP's offer email redirection.

Yes your right.
the sooner they get of being ISP dependant the better.

As for cost for a small business, minimum is a domain name fee/year and gooogle apps for free, maximum is $150/year for website/email hosting
it is not break the bank stuff... stationary may well be :)

I've had three clients that have been affected by Xtra's email issues and are moving their email over to Google Apps.

Hey guys still seeing a lot of Xtra/Telecom based mail servers marked as junk on Exchange and Smartermail systems. Anyone else seeing this? Are they still blacklisted?
