I who wants to place a bet that the most complicated part is yahoo doesnt provide an "export" function.

Also there is the question
Does telecom actually pay Yahoo! for the service, or does Yahoo! pay telecom for the ad revenue?

If telecom were to go in-house, it would most likley cost them for the infrastructure and engineering, and they would loose the revenue that yahoo is paying them (if they are being paid by yahoo)

Those that mentioned IMAP - it would not surprise me if its an added feature with additional cost. If telecom is paying yahoo on a per-account basis, webmail could be free, pop could be 20c and imap could be another 20c or something like that. I dont know for sure but i bet its simply a cost thing somewhere in the contract.

Next issue
Are the Yahoo! Xtra homepage and email service tied together?
Can telecom have the yahoo homepage without the yahoo email service?

dont forget that there is also a free flickr pro account that is tied up with the yahoo relationship also.

in any case, if you are with telecom dont want the yahoo mail then move your mail to one of the other free providers that is independant of your isp. better still, get your own domain and have that hosted.

when i was using telecom i didnt use the mail service - just because its offered doesnt mean you have to use it.

Yahoo!xtra is seperate.
No export would not be an issue, the complications are much deeper than that.

In related news, BSkyB in the UK have just migrated all of their internet customers from Gmail to Yahoo, and what a right mess that's turned into. Would you believe... here's another copy of every email you've ever received in the last five years!

Right now it costs me $7.11 per month for Office365 Exchange functionality for my custom domain. Assuming Telecom went to Microsoft and migrated all their customers over to such a configuration, $1 per user per month - Telecom would gain a large customer and Telecom customers would get an email service that didn't royally blow chunks - heck, Microsoft might even cut it to 50cents per user per month given the huge number of users that it would attract. As for the additional services - I've yet to hear anyone say, "wow! I'm going with Telecom because it offers me these free Yahoo services!".

Well I logged into my xtramail today and got their ultimatim: sign up to the new Yahoo Mail! terms and conditions, including agreement for them to scan all my email content. If i dont agree to this, 30 days and my existing xtramail services cease.

This appears to be the last straw, I'm only likely to stay if the others are worse - eg. Gmail which I by default have (android phone requires it) but have never used.

Unless I'm mistaken, I will be dumping Telecom as my ISP over this

It's not an email you get it if you login to an xtramail web login it's the new terms and conditions.

You should give Yahoo! Xtra an ultimatum as well: either they get their service together and improve security or you stop using their services...

I never got any message. Is it just my imagination, but is the webmail is now heavily telecom branded. It looks a lot more different to what it used to look like. Or maybe they have two interfaces.
