There are several ISPs already offering good 'unlimited' plans which have a decent swag of leechers using them already. I think the overall impact to new ISPs offering unmetered connections will only diminish.

The leechers will flock to the cheapest one as they always do.

Bear in mind this is only a trial with an extremely limited number of customers, so there won't be a whole lot of 'flocking' going on.

What we decide to do with fair use, shaping, prices, connection fees etc etc when we launch depends entirely on the outcome of the trial.
That is, after all, the purpose of the trial - to find stuff like this out.

We're testing a bunch of other stuff too - not just usage/network.

It won't give us a perfect picture, I agree, but it's just easier (quicker, cheaper etc), for now, to not bother with implementing shaping, caching etc, when we only have a couple of hundred people on board and we can just buy moar bandwidth, if we need it.

I signed up hopefully I can start streaming big time with better quality and be able to full time stream and enjoy what I like doing, hopefully Big Pipe become a really big pipe of joy

Awesome! So I just got my invite and sign up process was super easy. Have signed up for the VDSL Turbo package and will be switching from Vodafone Naked ADSL.

Will keep everyone updated but so far the support has been great and everything has been super simple and easy to follow :).

One question I do have for you guys, is who are you using for your backhaul or upstream provider, assuming you don't have your own data center etc.

One thing that annoys me about bigpipe is the kid in the ad.

Can you not edit out the lighting that is showing in the goggles? This is seriously holding me back from liking Big Pipe :P

We've had a few people using the Draytek 130. Seems to work pretty well out of the box.

We've also got a few people using the Telecom Ultra modems, and they work out of the box too. (both the dedicated VDSL one and the UFB one which also has VDSL capability)

We'd actually like people to try out a few different modems and let us know how they get on so we can build a 'whitelist' of modems that we know work well.

Chorus for backhaul for the trial. What we do later is TBD - depends on how big we get I guess.

lol, sorry about that.

It's just a stock photo we chucked in (that photo shoot seems surprisingly popular, I've found at least 3 other websites using similar, but not identical shots)

Tell you what, I'll put it on the 'to do' list to photoshop out the glasses, but it will be pretty near the bottom as I think most of our guys probably have slightly more important things to do than touching up pictures

One thing that kinds of worries me is that there's no phone support. I don't know if it'll work trying to sort make the connection work via email while you have no internet.

Thanks, will check them out. I posted on another BigPipe forum about static IPs but hadn't heard... will you be supplying static IPs (or at least give an option to have one) for the trial?
