$10 TXT available on new network?  I think that Telecom indicated that there will be txt add-ons that will provide different value depending on usage.  ie you wont pay for 500 texts if you only use 150.

I havent heard anything that was definitive other than CDMA plans wont be ported/offered on the XT network.  I think we'll have to wait until next week to determine whether $10TXT (or equiv) is offered.

I'm curious...

The banner ads showing on Geekzone talk about "launch week" starting Monday 25th. I wonder whether this means a potential launch before Friday? Assuming this would only occur if the filtering programme is completed.

From Telecom's media release, "The XT network is currently operational across the country with services due to be available commercially to customers by 29 May." (my emphasis).

I saw on the newspaper today. It said, that all of 3 telcos will NOT compete on price. So don't expect that telecom will reduce much price on voice and data, or increase the data cap too much. The speed it offers is definitely world class, but the price and inclusive voice data will be in line with third world. I was really disappointed to read that news. Because telecom is the only player that offer real nationwide coverage. My iPhone can't go through a day without losing signal every 5 to 10 minutes on 3G(I disabled GPRS on iPhone, so I don't get 2g signal). And when I'm at home , I have no signal at all. It isn't what I should expect from the 97% coverage from Voda. So I don't count on Voda or 2degrees to give me any more signal

Ok. They said 29th then it will be 29th. I really doubt they launch the network before 29th. Even though I want its sim so badly. Everybody knows the launch date is 29th, so it doesn't make sense for telecom to make it a earlier date. Just keep on waiting mates. But I'm getting impatient

just found this website.

Voice plans are not that important because CDMA offers the same thing. The data cap will be the same as what Vodafone offers, at 3GB....... That shattered all my expectation. I'm sure a data card can eat that in a week

If you are using 3GB of data in a week on a mobile data plan, then you should prob stick to fixed line.

3GB is pretty decent. For comparison, something like 85% of people use less than that even on their fixed line BB.

I hear people say that the UK has unlimited mobile internet usage, but if you actually check out the voda UK website, it is made pretty clear that they apply a fair usage policy, which kicks in at a measly 500MB of usage.

In theory...
Their data cards are quoted at 7.2Mbps = 0.9 Megabytes a second
3072MB / 0.9 MBps = 3413 seconds = 57 minutes.
Cap is gone in less than an hour assuming you are downloading constantly and assuming you are at the maximum speed, which neither are going to be true.
But in the real world yes it would be very easy to eat that all up in week if you did more than just casual emails and surfing, even going half that speed.

you are right exdee! Good calculation! 900kb per second is way too fast. And yes I do a lot of Internet surfing video downloading file downloading. And movies as well. So I will finish that in a week if uncontrolled

I think the thing to take from it would be that mobile broadband still isn't even close to a replacement for fixed line broadband(which is what many want/are expecting) in the idea that a heavy internet user would still feel restricted in their use. Though obviously fine for light browsing and emails.

And why do you say its 'way too fast'? You want to make it slower so you use less O_o

Of course I know that. But if you have never used mobile broadband much, you won't know why We smartphone users use it. I have so many other things to do. Computer is not my best mate. If you don't use 3g broadband, there is no reason for you to buy a high end smartphone. This XT network is all about super high speed broadband. If you don't use 3g Internet, do you care about XT??

scottjpalmer:
steve98: When did Telecom ever indicate that pricing on XT would be lower than the status quo?

I don't have a specific example but I think it is fair to say that the expectation of a good number of people is that the arrival of the XT Network would bring a compelling reason to change.

What? What about shared plans with up to ten people? What about free calling between those ten people? What about no more on-net and off-net calling prices?
