unbornchikken: I always thought it was all a balancing act.
And thats goes for all providers, the cost of services on the network has to be viable to maintain the maintenance and upgrade of the existing network and new networks for new and existing customers.
the more people on line and the more they use the more capacity you need, which means more equipment and more people to maintain that equipment. And if the prices just keep going down the network builders couldnt keep up
NZ just doesnt have the population density to pay for it.
and tbh if that is the case, cos im not expert, i'll keep the low population density thanks
higher priced BB is a small price for paradise
just my two pence

As far as population density goes, just serve the main centers as 2 degrees does for their mobile data plans.
No idea how that would work with Telecom being crippled by the kiwishare nonsense, but other ISPs should be able to do it IMO.

Ragnor: We're on the new plan now (we were on Total Home Lite + Pro).
It changed mid billing period, Telecom pro-rata the monthly cost for the plan so you only pay a partial amount for each plan for the time you were on that plan. Pro-rata'ing usually works out in your favour slightly as your usage is reset to 0 on the new plan.
You can see from this screen shot we have around half the billing period to use up the fresh 80GB (good times).
blah33: Does this also mean that the usage during the period from the start of that billing plan under the old scheme until the switch over to this new plan is thus able to be used up to the data cap? If so, then I should be stuck in and download stuff now.
quickymart: Is the changeover automatic? (here's hoping). I haven't heard anything...but that would be good times if so.
k1wi: Just for clarity - is there a choice in the new plans to for:
1. Reduced to 64k speeds following data-cap usage.
2. continued full speed combined with overusage fees.
?

at the moment it is an overage plan, there is not a choice for ToC
blah33: It have been put on a new plan where I was given the option of either an overage charge or being dropped back to dial-up speed. I said that I wanted the latter. I was told that I could change between these each month if I wanted. Also that I could change to another level each month.
I was told I would be switched over to the new plan between 3 and 10 Dec.
I was switched over to the new plan over night. It is shown as follows on my usage page:
