Spark made changes to their broadband plans from 16th Nov 2020 - all are open term and do not include a modem. You can either purchase the modem separately or bring your own (with no guarantees it will work).

Hi I have the smart modem too.

I was trying to connect a usb printer to it and failed.

I did some researching but it seems like the router does not support usb printers or have a print server?

Please correct and teach me if I'm wrong!

Based on the Arcadyan V10 which is similar to the Spark Smart Modem, it seems that the USB port is intended for 3G and 4G dongles.

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

Can you get the power supply separately? I can get hold of a router but without the power brick. Also what sort of price would that be?

Here is a snap of one of mine:

Hi I know RF exposure is pretty much harmless but could someone explain the differences in exposure between the HG659b router and the Beamforming of the new Spark Smart Modem? Does beamforming result in greater exposure if close to the device? Also would there be less exposure and signal interference overall in the home? Thanks.

I am no expert but...

I wouldn't worry. Most likely the total RF power density at any WiFi router will be much the same whether a single antenna is used or multiple beam forming antennas are used.

Beamforming is a form of phased antenna array where the RF is steered in a particular direction.

I would have slightly more concern if I was carrying several WiFi phones and using several Bluetooth devices.

Beamforming does have the potential to reduce the effects of interference by increasing the desired signal.

I have used the HG659 and the Spark Smart Modem in my 3 bedroom house with very little difference in WiFi access.

I upgraded because faults developed in my HG659.

So would anyone here recommend upgrading to the Spark Smart Router from Hg659b.

I only have a smallish 3 bedroom house and WiFi is excellent in all rooms often over 80Mbs on a 100Mbs plan.

I have no problems with my existing router. So maybe if it aint broke don't fix it?

I am trying to way up the pros and cons.

Would there be many performance and safety benefits with beamforming or is it not worth it?

Thanks.

I agree....

Depending on the age of your HG659b I would be preparing a plan change option or ISP change option to get a free Smart Modem on a contract.

It seems to be working fine with the dns I got off of sparks website but some reason with it set to auto it randomly works when I go to the browse tap on Apple Music and click on a new album the album will show and if it’s one of the animated artwork it plays but there’s no song list but if I come back to it five or ten minutes later it might work but it will end up doing the same thing, with atv app a movie trailer might work or it would come up saying there is an error check connection same thing with App Store
