@Skinny, using the address lookup tool on https://www.broadbandunlimited.nz/ it appears at my address that I can only get ADSL, although I currently have Fibre (with 2degrees).

I checked Bigpipe and they also only supply ADSL in my area.

However, Spark WILL connect Fibre in my area.

Is there some disconnect between these companies? I thought if you could get one of them you could get them all?

It's to reduce their support costs. There has to be a tradeoff for this low price. It doesn't help that there're at least 3 different firmware versions for HG659, each with different settings, hence the requirement you have to buy the modem.

Bigpipe/Skinny only have fibre handovers in certain areas. Spark has nationwide coverage. Which city are you in?

No they are separate companies even know they are owned by spark digital ventures requires them to have their own handovers within the area

Not currently. BigPipe (The more enthusiast version) currently has a beta you can subscribe to)

It's the same on average over the two years, contract just means you get a free modem and connection now. Connection fee is $100 cheaper than the early termination fee.

I still think 24 month's is too long for a contract but with the low price 12 months probably isn't viable to cover the cost of the modem and connection. anyway, No contract option FTW

It's exactly the same service as Bigpipe, and generally pretty good but all traffic is routed through Auckland

I'm currently with MyRepublic so essentially the Skinny UFB is the same i.e. routed via Auck, CGNAT & No IPv6 but $32 less per month...

How are any Skinny UFB users here finding it so far ?

NB: Why are Skinny and Bigpipe not on the Trunet results as I won't assume its the same as Spark ?

Yes.

Your question is moot though because it's mandatory to buy the Skinny HG659 when you sign up to Skinny.

Has anyone got VOIP working well on a Skinny UFB connection?

I understand this isn’t supported by Skinny, but I’m thinking about switching and would need to be sure our home phone will work.

We’re already using the same network (given we’re with Bigpipe) and the same router (ex Vodafone but running the Bigpipe firmware), and successfully run VOIP off the router without a fixed IP.

Can I assume, therefore, that it should all work as it does currently if we switched to Skinny?

And @livingskinny or @SkinnyBB, does the requirement to purchase (if not use) the router still apply? TBH, having to pay $148 to transfer across from BP does mean it’s probably not worth it, whereas only a one-off $49 setup charge would be.(Of course, I know they’ll not be wanting to encourage movement between their brands.)
