Another issue that I have not been sure of relates to the Telecom Connection Manager that has a Username and Password - these are blank and the connection works without them by just clicking connect. Is there is reason to set these up?

Secondly i am using the T stick in my Macbook Pro and the message comes up "New Network Interfaces have been detected. Following not setup .. To set these up etc .."

Is there any need to do this? Currently I just cancel this dialog box and everything works but would like this window not to open every time.

Username and password are not required on any mobile data connection - but the software has it if you need to authenticate.

A similar issue appears in Vista too - a "Set Network Location" dialog appears everytime you connect. It's because the software creates and removes a dial up configuration for every session.

Not sure how to workaround the Leopard issue apart from making a new dial up/mobile config manually on your system and using that to connect to the Internet. However, the software will not be activated and will not count your usage inside the software (but of course there's the online meter you can use)

I know it's a ugly hack, but there is a tickbox at the bottom of that window which allows you to treat all networks found furthermore as what you choose on that screen so it won't prompt you again. (At least on Windows 7, I'm pretty sure it's there in Vista as well.)

The other option, although I have not tested it with the tstick (only the replacement to the vodem) is simply using the built in Windows networking, it supports WWAN's now, so it simply appears in the list of network connections.

I must get a phone bill and grab one of these for myself before they sell out!!!

morrisk: I am reasonably sure that I have understood the issues of how the 500MB monthly allowance works and the pre paid dollars but wanted to be able to monitor both the MBs and the dollars. I tried to add the T stick number to the Your Telecom broad band meter but could not and I was sent an email from Telecom that states:

To check your usage for your Prepaid T-Stick please call our Prepaid Helpdesk on 0800 32 32 32 any day between 7am and 9pm or email prepaid_admin@telecom.co.nz

We have recently been advised that a new online meter will be launched in June 2010. When this becomes active you will be able to check your usage online through the Mobile Broadband section of our website at the link below.

But on calling 0800 323232 you are told that you must call from your mobile - - please hang up and call from your mobile phone. So back to Telecom and then I get this reply:

I am sorry, I should have explained better.
When you call 0800 32 32 32 you will need to select the option 5 to speak to a representative. Our Customer Services Team will then be able to check your usage for you.

Have since taken the SIM from my T Stick put it into my iPhone and have got my dollars balance that way and also claimed the $10 for registering the number.

Taking the SIM in and out of the T stick seems a difficult way to access this information until Telecom has the website access up and running in June 2010.

Has anybody found any other way of getting this information?

Visit http://pdaportal.telecom.co.nz - click "Your Telecom FREE" down the bottom, enter in the T-Stick mobile number, create a password and it's shown on screen right infront of you :-)

You have to be using the T-Stick to do this, it will not work from a DSL connection etc.

There is a registry option for that to just leave the network setting to Public (by default) - but I'm just stating that there is something like the issue which he had.

Vista does, you just right click on your connection manager in the task bar, and click on "Turn off notification of new networks".

How do you set your own password for the Mobile BB Meter? I can't see the menu mentioned to change it. It sucks having to create a temp password each time!

When connected via the tstick goto http://yt.telecom.co.nz/mobile

Once logged in you get extra options to change password permanently

I also like the interface better, once changed that will be your password for the mbbmeter login too.

No, you may be wrong, I just tried a Vodafone NZ sim in MY device, and I can assure you it didn't work, for whatever reason. Like I said, I quote from the rep: "Due to the nature of the promotion, the device provided may be locked."

I did attempt to try using the APN's I found in a different thread, which is the same as the one's mentioned here, however as I said "didn't work, for whatever reason." and how is it narrow-minded if i'm going by what the person at the dedicated support centre for the T-stick said (even though they are usually wrong...)

Really, probably just a dead sim card :(

While you did say "for whatever reason", you also said he was wrong - editing your original post and then using an excuse isn't smart. People can see

Anyway, I can assure you, along with many many other people here, that Telecom do not lock their devices.

Now, back on topic!

What about the Samsung W531. When these were sold they were sold SIM locked. So don't say Telecom do not lock devices.

That wasn't telecom locking it, that was Samsung, they did it for the other providers they sold it to as well. Mainly due to the fact it was a dual CMDA/GSM Sim. And the companies they sold it to were primarily GSM. Easy 5 digit code to get around it though :)

I managed to get the unlocking code for the Samsung W531 on the net. I was advised by Samsung NZ that these phones were sold to Telecom SIM unlocked.
