Assuming you're not in an overly crowded WiFi area, that's about as good as you'll get from WiFi then.

Can you change transmission mode to just n/ac?

EviLClouD: Do people on Fibre Max with the Smart Modem or Smart Modem 2 mind sharing their wifi speeds please? My wifi speeds appear to be restricted to around 300Mbps and i was curious if changing the modem to one of these will resolve it. Thanks

On an iPhone 12Pro over 5 Ghz I can get up around 500-600 Mb/sec if I am reasonably close to the Smart modem or wired Smart Mesh.

Thanks for confirming that! From the sounds of things, i’ve reached the peak of the HG659b’s wifi capabilities.

Just an update. I replaced my HG659b with a Smart Modem and can now reach speeds of around 600-800 on wifi depending on device!

Pretty happy with this!

I have been using a Skinny Smart Modem (F/W v6.00.18 build02) with Slingshot for several months and lost IPv6 access a week ago.

After doing a last ditch factory reset and setting up configs again I now have IPv6 up and running again.

Before the reset the Smart Modem was issued an IPv6 Wan address. I could ping the Wan address but not any DNS servers.

After reset I see that my Smart Modem has been issued a new IPv6 Wan address.

Question about Spark Smart modem V9517 .. just ordered it when I switched plans but then I see that to use Smart Mesh you need two smart mesh units and have to turn off Wifi on the New Router??  Does that mean I'm losing all the benefit of the new modem with Wifi6,etc?   Anyway around this?

If have to disable V9517 wifi.. I might do this instead?

  • leave V9517 wifi on and connect devices to it like Chromecast's with 192.168.1 range (splitscope)
  • Use old smartmodem + mesh for mobiles/tablets

The need for two Smart Mesh units in ONLY when you are not using a Smart Modem as the router. Because you have a Smart modem ordered, any Smart Mesh units will seamlessly work with it

If you have internal wiring, then you can potentially use the two of them as one network. If you connect the second one to ethernet via LAN port, and switch off DHCP/NAT - it will hopefully act as a smart mesh

Just came back by its self

Interesting you should say the Blue light is off.... Tucked away around the side it is not often seen...

My Blue light is off.... WiFi is working to 3 of my devices ok....

Edit: Just did a speed test from my phone via WiFi to my Skinny router... the Blue light is off all the time...

I always understood that the Blue was on steady when WiFi was on and flashing when WiFi data was active.

Here is a snip from the Spark Smart Modem quick start guide...
