I've had my first "issue" with the Spark Smart Modem 2 this morning.  I say issue, but honestly, I'm not sure if it is a problem or not.

I noticed the router was displaying these lights.  Everything appears to be working perfectly, apart from the solid white STATUS light, which the online help says it means "Modem is ready to be connected".  As far as I can tell, everything is connected, I've been on MS Teams meetings via Wi-Fi all morning, my wife is working downstairs (and for sure I'd have heard if she was having any issues!), so what does this mean?  I could reboot the modem, but before I take any action, I thought I'd flag it to this group for comment:

Its an issue with new firmware which was rolled our a couple of weeks ago. This and a few other issues. See here for discussion about the new firmware - https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=39&topicid=295926

Thank you very much for the quick response and pointer to the other thread.  I've just restarted the SSM 2 and the status light went from white to yellow to green (expected behaviour).

Reset my Smart Modem to factory settings and set it up again. And I'm still getting reboots. Current firmware is: v6.00.18.

I believe the SM1 can do a guest network - but is disabled by default.  I've not played with it though.

Yes, there's a Guest Network tab under WLAN.

Ok, after troubleshooting my Smart Modem (original)'s spontaneous reboots, I'm told I should replace it as they haven't had similar reports and mine is out of warranty.

Interestingly, I found out:

* due to stock limits, the Smart Modem 2 is only available to Wireless Broadband customers, although stores may be able to make an exception. So I may have to replace my unit with the old model.

* The Smart Modem 2 works with the Smart Mesh 2, but not a Smart Mesh (original). But apparently would work with 2x Smart Mesh (original), which sounds a bit weird to me so take with a grain of salt.

I was hoping to get a SM2 for fibre (non mesh use) when I change my ISP in early August.

Is there any link/source to the status of availability of the SM2?

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

I went into the store this morning. I grabbed a SM1 (~$106) whereas the SM2 is about $300. They are still selling the SM1 to fibre customers and the SM2 to Wireless customers.

Damnit! My new Smart Modem also crashes/reboots itself intermittently!

What a surprise.

Is there anything unusual about the power supply or networking arrangement that could cause the reboots?

Thanks. Not that I know of. I have lots of devices though, and I use a lot of DHCP reservations and port forwarding. House is roughly 5.5 years old, so the wiring should be good. But I have replaced the multiboard in the patch cupboard today. There's a chance the ONT's power plug might have been not seated properly, but that shouldn't cause a modem it's plugged into to crash/reboot itself, right? It has been stable all afternoon, so perhaps it was power related. Will keep an eye on it.
