I went into the store to change from my $40 smartphone plan to prepaid so I can use this, the guy said that "I might want to wait for a couple of weeks". Sounds like they've been told that "something" is coming for post-paid users to hopefully compete.

I'll probably change anyway, $19/month for 500MB is all I need, the ability to do a data top-up on prepaid if need be is also something you can't do on post-paid which may be handy.

They'd have to do something quick to make the post paid plans more lucrative coz the currently the prepay plans are out doing the post paid ones by far..

I wonder how many customers are jumping out of a plan into prepay..

Well, their new mascot is a turtle, maybe that's supposed to be representative of something...

Is it representative of:

The speed at which progress is made?

How thick skinned (shelled) they are?

Their ability to pull their head and limbs in when threatened?

Or, that they have been around for a long time...

Or maybe even that they will win in the end, despite what the hares do.

Edit: Yes I know there is a difference between tortoises and turtles but that would be splitting hares (sic) ;)

Most likely the last two is what they want to signify but the above are all applicable from the perspective of customers..

Talked to someone working at their call centre, apparently the prepay team overseas can't do ports. He said plenty of people were porting from 2degrees, but also plenty moving from postpaid too.

Does anyone know if you can be on two packs at once? And after 31st oct you wont be able to go on both packs at once i presume?

I joined this on the weekend (the $40 smartphone plan all of a sudden seemed very expensive) and I was signed up to it twice by mistake, so yes, turns out for $38 a month you can have 10,000 text messages, 120 minutes and a gig of data, well outdoing the $60 smartphone plan and is down only 60 mins but up 9,700 text messages on the $80 plan.

I don't know for sure that being able to have 2 concurrent subscriptions is intentional so you may want to double check with Telecom.

Sounds like an interesting one :)..

You can e-mail me pl at telecom dot co dot nz with your phone number and I can ask what's going on.  Or if you're happy with it the way it is then I don't need to see what's going on.

will i be able to carry on after 31st oct? if yes i'm signing up if no i won't

The only feature that would get me onto postpaid now would be shared data among multiple SIMs.

The $19 is awesome value, but shared data would definitely tempt me into postpaid again later.

Hi Pete,

I believe this feature is working as expected, please don't change it.  =-)

Yep you can, you'll need to have sufficient balance for both packs to renew, with the oldest renewing first (i.e. If you had aa $22 balance the 1st one would renew, and the 2nd sit in a pending state for 3days. If you didn't topup, thenthen that pack (2nd) would be removed).

Once you have a SIM, with the number you want, simply topup and head over to m.telecom.co.nz/yourtelecom, purchase the pack, and repeat :-)

Well the fact you can purchase multiple packs makes my spreadsheet even more interesting. Can't be bothered updating it, but now this wipes the floor with the postpaid plans, so i dont think the comparison is needed.
