bludhemn: Hello

I am not sure if this is a coincidence, but I signed up yesterday for BigPipe and got the confirmation email. Somewhere around evening, my connection with Telecom went dud. I did a bit of basic troubleshooting (resetting modem, connecting directly) but didn't work. Their tech support confirmed that it looked fine from their end, but couldn't proceed to do any further tests until I was home to check the modem. Unless the switchover has already happened, then this is something else.

I guess it's possible Chorus have been a bit over-eager and done the transition super-fast without telling us.

But if Telecom tech support seems to think all is fine at their end, then that's unlikely, as they would have had a disconnection notice.

So experience so far is disappointing and frustrating. Was cut off from old ISP Wednesday last week, as scheduled. Now 10 days latter and heading into another weekend, still no internet. Have had to chase via email to get any updates, how do you escalate faults.? Supposedly chorus have been to the exchange 3 times. The we'll ring you if it's urgent remains a marketing promise.....

Hi,

Really sorry to hear you have had a bad experience. Definitely very frustrating to be without internet, especially for so long.
Can you DM the email address you used to sign up with please, and I can follow up immediately.

thanks.

ETA: Nevermind,  I found the case, looking at it now.

Hi,

bit hard to tell what you can get just from your region.
If you put your future address in our website that will tell you whether VDSL or ADSL is available at your new place.

cheers

Just got my BigPipe connection (ADSL2+) Yesterday after work, (singed up Monday at ~4pm) Awesome service guys.
Just wondering if it is worth me going to VDSL as I live about 700M from the cabenet & one house outside the predicted 20mbps zone.

Good stuff.  Did our address checker say you could get VDSL?  If so, then you can give it a go. If you are on the very edge it may get rejected by Chorus, or it may get accepted and then once installed your speeds may not be as good as you hoped, in which case we can switch you back to ADSL.

Couple of things to be aware of though:

1) you would need to get yourself a VDSL modem.  If it turns out your can't get VDSL then that is potentially 'wasted' money.
2) we don't include a master splitter with our VDSL connection.  If you don't already have one, then we recommend you do get one (especially since you are on the 'edge' of coverage), or alternatively you can run some Cat5 from the demarc to your modem isolating your phone jackpoints (which are now useless since we are naked broadband).

Actually, I recommend getting a splitter anyway, even if you don't get VDSL. It gives better speeds on ADSL too in most cases.

Yes it dose.

Not to worried about extra download, although it would be good just would like the extra upload speed.

I don't have a master splitter installed I only have one jackpoint installed with standard phone cable from the demarc my jackpoint  dose dot have any capacitors or resistors or any unnecessary  junk on it. Will a master splitter make any difference?

cool.  in that case,  just request a plan change through our support form on the site.  It requires a chorus tech to visit the exchange/cabinet, so might take a few days to happen (gives you a chance to get a modem too).

Your attenuation suggests your order may well be rejected, as the chorus address checker isn't 100% reliable, but we'll just have to see what Chorus say. Don't buy a modem until we confirm Chorus have given it the 'ok'.  (they still might reject it after that, but much less likely)

Assuming they allow it, then if you only have a single jack then you will probably be fine without a splitter. Lets give it a go first and see how your line performs after the 10 day DLM.  If it is not looking good then a splitter might help.

Hi guys,

I just signed up to BigPipe about 1.5 weeks ago or so, as we're just moving into a new place so was hoping to have the internet all up and running when we moved in. Moved in yesterday and I received an E-mail shortly after I signed up confirming that everything would be ready when we moved in, which was yesterday.

Plugged in the modem yesterday, got no DSL light, no internet light, nothing.

Logged a support ticket by E-Mail later that day and was advised that Chorus had pushed back the connection but it was going to happen today - Well I got a call from the technician this morning and after a bit confusion (due to the letterbox numbers) everything was meant to have been set up and ready to go.

Getting the DSL and internet lights on my ZyXEL modem but after setting up all the settings, I'm still getting no internet. Currently just trying to get it set up and confirmed working using the standard routing features of the modem, before bridging it to my Airport Extreme - BigPipe support say something about the technician not closing off the job properly which is why the internet is not working, any ideas?

Thanks!

I've had a very similar problem.

Please see my thread titled "Draytek DV130 settings for BigPipe" in the BigPipe forum. The last two posts has an explanation of what happened.
