lugh: ... with pop3.xtra.co.nz on port 110 and send.xtra.co.nz on port 587 (no SSL on either).

Did this work without registering on Yahoo!Xtra Bubble? Or is the account registered?

Ok, I just figured out why mail.xtra.co.nz was not working for me; I didn't set up SMTP Authentication. Even through smtp.xtra.co.nz was working fine for me (with or without SSL / ports). I made the setting changes anyway, and it seems to be working great. Also seems to take less time to complete a send and receive cycle.

Hope this helps, and credit to paradoxsm's blog where I picked up my mistake.

In my blog, I likened the whole experience to:

Xtra customers began being assimilated into the Yahoo! collective as of Sunday, 19th August.

“Resistance is futile. Your life, as it has been, is over.”

The issues surrounding the cybernetic implants that were identified, have now been resolved.

Just happened to look at briefcase this morning and it seems that they have fixed the problem whereby only 30MB was allocated. Funny thing is, they seem to have added the 1GB on top of the 30MB as the usage meter shows as 1054MB available!!

I see you neglected to show the rest of the records in question. (like with the traceroute data in the previous thread)

Notice that the time specified for this record is rather low, compared to say typical set up, which may have:

Telecom have not tested Yahoo!Xtra Bubble before foisting it onto it's unsuspecting users.
As if the problems with email settings and false positive messages being sent to the Spam folder wasn't enough,
Mac users are now totally left in the dark (and the cold).
When they attempt to access their Spam messages (to check for false positives) they find they are unable to, as their (standards based) web browser (Safari) is not supported!
What a lot of sloppy inept web programmers they have doing Telecom's work. One of the important things to do when developing web sites/pages is to test the new site/page in different browsers. The banks at least have learnt not to alienate their customers in this way!
Way to go Telecom! I'm not the boy in the bubble, I'm the boy excluded from the Yahoo!Xtra Bubble!

Hi 100PercentMac,

They are saying sorry and giving you a 25% credit for the lost week ...

what more do you want?

Yeap they stuffed up in the first place - but now they have done the decent thing and come clean...

Edit: Since they have restored the old SMTP server (smtp.xtra.co.nz on port 25) Our MAC has been working fine with XTRA. - but then again I am not using it from WebBrowser - I am using a email client on the MAC.

Subject: Service Announcement: Apology to Xtra Customers

Dear customer, The first thing we’d like to say is that we are sorry. Many New Zealanders experienced problems with their email over a number of days and we are still working to help some. We are putting all of our resources behind this effort and won’t rest till every last customer is connected. The email problems happened for some customers as we were upgrading the system to bring you new premium online services. We will continue striving to bring some of the best online products and services the world has to offer to New Zealand. We realise how important email is for everyone; how much it means to stay in touch and the frustration affected customers quite rightly feel. Again, we do not attempt to make an excuse here, just offer an unreserved apology. After a week of lost time for many we want to do what we can to give a week back. As a result we’re providing you with a week’s free internet access charge. You do not need to do anything, you will automatically receive a credit on your October Telecom bill.  The one week credit will be calculated as 25% of your current monthly internet plan charges.  We understand how our online community has been affected and as a further gesture we are also making a $1million donation to the wider community.   You can vote for your preferred New Zealand charity, and we will donate $250,000 to each of the four charities with the most votes. To place your vote from Monday 3rd September, go to www.charityvote.co.nz.   In spite of the problems and frustration some of you have experienced, we encourage you to give Yahoo!Xtra Bubble services a go. There are some fantastic world class services in there that will help make your internet experience a safer and more exciting one. For more information visit www.yourbubble.co.nz . We thank you for your patience and understanding. All of us at Telecom

Actually Bubble works on Safari - I've just tested. It's the Yahoo! Mail that won't load, saying you need to download Firefox or use Internet Explorer.

I want Safari to be used to test to see that the new webmail interface conforms with standards.

To freitasm:
Thanks, that's what I meant sorry, seeing as legitimate messages marked as spam are only accesible via webmail and since most Mac users only use the bundled Safari web browser, they cannot access their legitimate messages, now in the spam folder/mailbox!

Can you not log into the classic webmail interface with Safari?
