freitasm: Got home now and installed the router. Thanks Skinny for providing this for a couple of weeks testing it.

Very easy, the UI is uncomplicated, firewall available, WiFi management including MAC filtering, gigabit ports for wired network. Here in Johnsonville at my address currently have 3/5 bars and speedtest still shows 42 Mbps down/17 Mbps up


What model Huawei device is it? Just interested in looking it up on Google for specifications etc.

And that 60GIG won't last long watching video in HD 1080P.

i am on RBI with 80GB
i had to give up light box
on HD it is easy to go through 10 GBs a day


Wow. We are pretty heavy Netflix users and our usage is generally between 40 and 60gb. Maybe lightbox is pretty slurpy for data.

Streaming House in HD on Netflix now... Moved the box to the lounge, close to where the HTPC is so I could plug via ethernet. It's now showing 4 out 5 bars coverage instead of the 3 out 5 in the home office.

Netflicks allows you to adjust quality
Light box defaults to the highest quality the speed allows.
If your speed is under 10mbs it seems to run at 720p
Anything over that and it defaults to 1080p

Just finished watching two TV episodes on Netflix... This would account for 90% of the total usage since I turned the modem on. No hiccups, no buffering. Just plain streaming:

Johnsonville should be good for signal strength. My stepbro used to live out there and he got great coverage (I think he was in Woodridge?)

Geese: After 10 years of total rip off mobile broadband, finally an alternative from Skinny mobile which is affordable and with more data than I'll ever need.



Except, as I understand it, it's not very mobile because you can't take it from place to place.  Eg. if I had this at home and decided to spend a week at my bach, I couldn't take it with me and use it there.  Would be very pleased if I was wrong on that one.  Perhaps someone can clarify.  I've spent a small fortune on Skinny's mobile data over Christmas.

This is a fixed cellular broadband solution. It uses cellular infrastructure ("mobile data") but it's set to one address. Think capacity planning, minimum service, etc, etc.

When you activate it will record what cell site you are using and if you move it then you will get a friendly call. You can change address though and take it with you. I don't know if there's a limit in how many times you can change addreses - if there isn't then you could possibly take it with you on a holiday and have it on a fixed spot.

Would be convenient if there was an option to (somehow) do this from inside the router's config page - but I can see people abusing it too.

in a town like where i live that only has 1 tower, it could easily be abused like take ur modem to work etc
