That is very untidy and complex. Not to mention un-intuitive, undocumented and non-user-friendly. Have to search to this topic each time want to search.

Come on, we are GEEKS here. Surely we can do a lot better that this.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Are you trying to search from Google itself rather than from the GZ site?

The top GZ header has a Google search which will search all of GZ.

We use Google Search because any other search we could provide or develop wouldn't give the results we can get from the Google Search on this site.

If you use the search box provided in all our pages you don't need to enter anything and the search is always on Geekzone. The "site:" is just a switch that allows you to refine the search to the forums or to blogs, etc.

You can also refine your search by using OR, AND, + and -...

The google site search is fine but an advacned forum search which only searched forum posts/threads and not the rest of geekzone would be very useful in my opinon:

I too have found the built in forum search systems like the screenshot above to be better than google because of the extra options.

Wouldn't be that hard, if I remember rightly geekzone is using IIS7 and SQL Server 2008, so bang a full text index on the appropriate database table/fields and crack together a semi decent form and she'll be rocking.

Only one problem the forums/site are all classic asp and who wants to ever code in that again, where's the asp.net mvc and linq 2 sql at?
