This has been discussed in various threads and a very large majority of users are using IE8 with GZ with no or only minor issues.

The other thread(s) suggested disabling 3rd party toolbars etc and some users had success with that.

I'd rather not disable my toolbar, it encryptes what I type so keyloggers and other security hazards cannot work.

As Scott says... I have been using Geekzone for some time now on IE8 and have had no problems. Every time someone complained about Geekzone (or some other site) it was actually related to toolbars interfering with IE8.

You should check if there's a new version of your favourite toolbar and update it.

Unless I have hidden toolbars, then my problem is not to do with addons.

That is not an IE8 problem, and not related to add-ons. It is related to image compression technologies and I am looking into it. Check our source on this page for more information or right-click the icons in this page and compare their properties.

I dont know how it works, its a "pro" feuture of my antivirus package and it claims to encrypt what I type so that keyloggers cannot steal bank information etc etc or so it says on the box.

which antivirus package are you running?

an antivirus, antispywre etc program can look for 'malicious' programs, but if you're typing in english and a keylogger is listening then encryption isnt really going to stop them.  It would also prevent your bank site from working too as it wouldnt be able to decrypt the encrypted information.

Bank sites use SSL which encrypts the data you enter while it is in transit from your browser to the banks web server.  Unfortunately the transit of text from the keyboard to the browser is in 'plain text'.  While it would be technically possible to encrypt the data between a keyboard and browser, it probably wouldnt be a generally workable solution and would require a plugin in the browser to 'decrypt' the data, rather than encrypt it.

It updates its virus definitions, but when was the last time the program itself was updated?

Also, next time you see a crash, open Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Event Viewer | Applications and look for the record of this crash. In the text it will tell you exactly what "module" caused it. Let us know please.

NzKaizer: trend micro internet secruity pro 2009

Comments here and here.

Still needs to see if it's compatible ith IE8.

In principle I don't really care about keyloggers if I run my system in a controlled environment - AV and AntiSpyware active, not opening unknown files people send to me, etc... One less thing to crash PCs...

I took compatibility mode off and its magicly not crashing anymore o.0

o well the better.

Thanks for that link, I always thought the encryption worked, because sometimes when I'm typing something on a webpage like once in 3 months or w/e random letters will come like I type "hello" instead on screen it says "aaabb" which I assumed is a bug in the encryption part a page refresh fixed that but yer, least now I know even if a keylogger gets onto my pc, no way its getting sensitivie info typed on a website.

OT, if you are concerned about this, you would be better to create a "locked" down user, ie a user that only has permissions to browse the internet, use email, create documents into My Documents.  If you don't have the rights to install anything, if you inadvertinly click on a program that does install some nasties, they won't work as you don't have the rights to.

And when you do need to install programs, log out and log back in as Administrator.
