Typing a forum post, and my login session must have expired. After posting and then i'm presented with this error message:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'AND'.

/forums.asp, line 88

Thanks for notifying - yes, this is the line where we send out the e-mail notification... I will have to enclose this around an error trap. Shouldn't be a problem unless you have a session expired in the meantime, but I have added an auto-login feature - unless you don't have the automatic login checkbox set...

Fixed. Will test later today on my staging server and move into the live server tonight.

even though my session had expired, the post was still posted....

which brings up the question - how can you post without a valid session?

Interesting enough checking for a session is the first thing done in the script... It seems that IIS closed the session between the INSERT and the SENDMAIL. Because these are in the same script of course it shouldn't be the case, and this is something I will be looking at.

i assumed it hadn't posted, so posted again, and again..

then i cloned the window (opera rules!) and logged in again, and started a new session (i presume)

then i went back to the window with sql errors, and submitted the post again, and found that the post appeared 4 times.

i deleted all but one.

Fixed... Same thing, another routine using the same piece of logic. It should be ok now for everyone.

I think it's something on this IIS server though, closing session. Some interesting news though: got a phone call from my hosting, who wants to talk about moving Geekzone to another server. Apparently our traffic is impacting other domains on the same machine now. No surprise, we're talking about a few million pages a month here...

Will work with them on this during the week.

didn't seem to involve any expired sessions this time.. ie i didn't need to login again, and i still haven't.

Maybe you should start adding features for subscribers only?
or collecting donations?

Also you are using Opera. I wonder if there's anything going between the browser and the server that cause a session to end?

The problem is not the financial side.

Geekzone is quite a nice and rewarding work, that's why I decided to dedicate full time to it. As I posted in the blog before, I do Geekzone stuff after hours, but I am leaving my day job to work on this almost full time - with a couple of part-time contracts in between.

So, answering your comment - nope, no donations needed (thanks!), but a subscription service did cross my mind. I have decided to enhance Geekzone even more and try to keep it free though. Wait for some new features coming soon.
