freitasm:

On the other hand, I have disabled ads in all Apple iOS forum pages so you can load these pages faster...

I would say due to the high volume of traffic on Geekzone, due to the iPhone4 release, freitasm dropped ads on that one topic to keep the page quick, and server load low.

A better screenshot for those who are subscribers/mods, who don't see ads anyway Cool

SteveON - just a heads up, anything wider than 700 pixels gets cropped down, so keep your images under that.

Ads don't put any load on the server, since the scripts run on the browser and are all served by Google.

Ads do make pages a bit slower for users, and seeing we had moments of people refreshing pages at a crazy rate I decided to be a nice guy and make all pages in one specific forum ad free - fast, fast, fast.

I will restore ads on that forum during the weekend.

Can it be used for sponsorships? Absolultely. Is it free now? Unless someone comes along and want to put a message there, it's free, out of my goodness.

An update folks... Telecom is now sponsoring the Apple iOS forum during the launch period. Basically they are covering any lost revenue for not showing ads on those pages - and we are getting hammered.

*** sigh ***

So we go and replace all the scripts on a page with a single text link. And some people make their lives to complain on Twitter that it's not actually "ad free".

Some people...

It's ad free, but the ad free message is a ad. That's pretty awesome imo :P
