Each time I go onto the Geekzone site, I get a message to say a script is running which is causing my IE to become unresponsive.  I have to click on "stop" before I can carry on.  This has only just started happening.  What is causing it and what can I do to stop it?

Probably some add on is causing scripts to load slowly, or being blocked altogether.

Also possible that your setup is blocking the servers where those scripts are being hosted, or your network is being slowed down for some reason.

I use IE9 the whole day, and don't see this happening.

It has only started happening over the last couple of weeks - never in the past - and I haven't knowingly done anything to initiate it.  What does it mean anyway, that a script is operating to make IE unresponsive?

How can I get rid of it?  It's likely to drive me mad as it even stops me going from forum topic to forum topic and moving around the site.

It is probably something on your PC - check the things I suggested before.

Please be gentle with me (I have now bought 3 kindles through your site!) and explain, to a non-techie, exactly what I need to do?

Thank you very much

Hmmm. Are you running any antivirus with a "web screening" feature, like Avast? These can cause problems. Or any IE security addon?

And thanks for buying the Kindles!

It can be a number of things, do you have another PC there that runs IE? Does it have teh same problem?

Which IE are you using?
I would look at any of your IE add-ons first, and remove them one by one and see if that fixes it.

IE9 -> Menu -> Tools -> Manage Add On's

'Disable' them all and see if that makes any difference.

If it does, 'enable' them one by one until you have identified the one causing the problem.

Having said that, for safety's sake, leave your Antivirus Add On's enabled until you have eliminated everything else first.

There could be many reasons, but it is a good place to start.

Also, restart your pc if you have not done that for a few days.

No need to disable the add-ons to test it. Instead click Start | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer (No Addons) and see if the problem still happens.

Not running avast.  Running IE 7.  Other computers in office OK.  Just done as Freitasm advised and clicked on IE (no addons) and the problem is fixed!  Many thanks indeed.

So it's one of the add-ons causing the problem. You will have to disable those to find out what's causing it...

Obsolete software will do that as places are no longer testing for compatibility with it.

It is happening again today, so I will have to try the long fix advised previously, if I can figure out how to do it.  I was not aware that I was running obsolete software??.

Internet Explorer 9 is the latest version of the software.

Do you run Windows Update at all? Every second Tuesday (US time) of the month there's a series of updates. Internet Explorer 9 has been offered as an update for a few months now.

You can also download it from www.microsoft.com/internetexplorer.

Turned off the google toolbar and it seems to have fixed the problem.  Thanks to all for your continued help.  Have learned a lot from this great site.
