Hi, I am a Student so I am poor

I am also studying in the IT tech networking and server field. I cannot run virtualization properly so I cannot learn and practice. It would also be a good for learning new operating systems and for more practice on building a pc. It would also be nice since I think my current computer is getting close to dying as it locks up and cannot even move the mouse even after a reinstall of windows

I only have a laptop and would love to have desktop again.

I'm thinking a sleek jet black HTPC that could connect up to my jet black LG HD lcd and my (jet black) squeezebox; help me form the holy trinity! An i5 would be the jet black icing on the cake!

I am currently running a home PC that is over 7 years old... and I sell computers for a living! It would be great to have the latest and greatest system at home so that I can share with my customers how great it really is... from experience! Rather than just by reading benchmarks to them.

My wife and kids are giving me grief as the family pc is past its use by date and it powers off randomly, usually when they are in the middle of wring an email, word doc or similar. I need this to get me started on building a new pc before I am kicked out of the house.

As a beneficiary (DPB), I am constantly broke and would love to win this so I could sell it on trademe and buy some food. Just kidding (about selling it).

Winning the i5 CPU would enable me to go further into debt by upgrading my gaming box with a new motherboard, RAM, and Windows 7, thereby injecting a few much-needed dollars into the economy, saving 0.015 jobs, and forestalling at least one finacial company's demise by at least 30 minutes.

To win ICore5=Play, Fun & Freedom to Explore (with a huge part of the cost covered)! = Hello new PC I can take into tomorrow, running more than 3 programs before grinding to a halt and needing that darn reboot. Welcome Hi-Def, Blu-Ray & Fast Online gaming into our home for the very first time, I wonder if that will give me better eyesight hmm.... So for me winning the ICore5 would equal a Happy Household more than willing to take you in!

I do a lot of writing and transcribing of interviews using great voice recognition software but my current processor is just too lazy to work as fast as I speak, so I baaaaaadly need a very fast, energetic and capable one. Yes, yes yes!

I'm keen to switch to i5 for my media computer from a lonely Pentium4 - which is starting so feel it's age. Also I think my argument is so powerful that it's not necessary to talk about it.

Just over a year ago i thought it would be a good idea to build myslef a PC that was good enough for work and the odd game here and there.

Unfortunately with my limited knowledge of PC's and PC building at the time I brought a cheap processor.
That cheap processor has a bad core ( not naming names :) ), with no way to return it ( again lack of knowledge on my behalf ) I now have a PC that crashes constantly and it is impossible to put in a good days work, and I find my self saving my work every 5 seconds just incase.

I think winning this processor would help stabalize my PC and in turn stabalize my work out put.

I have two projects that have been on hold for quite a while: I have one ATX case, power suppy, and peripherals and one Micro-ATX case, power supply, and peripherals that are both sitting on the floor of my "computer room" needing new processor, memory, and motherboards. The Micro-ATX was a used as a home media center with our large screen TV but now I am stuck letting the whole family use my Playstation 3 console instead. I would like to finish one or both of these projects.

Both of these had earlier generation single-core AMD Athlon processors that were dogs when I scrapped them and I would really like to upgrade to a modern, screaming multi-core processor that supports DDR3 memory.

My brother can't see any point in upgrading his computer — a ten year old hand-me-down (from my mum who's more IT savvy than him!). He doesn't know why his partner and kids whine about it being so crap. "It does the job", he says, "I can even multi-task with it! While its powering up I can get the lawns done at the same time. Then I click to open Internet Explorer and while that is loading and dialing up I've got time to make go and make a coffee. Nothing wrong with it!"

If I won the Core i5, I'd have an excuse to upgrade my whole system (since I can't just switch out the processor) and I'd be able to give him a much more powerful hand-me-down that I'm sure his partner and kids will be much happier with, even if he doesn't appreciate it!…Then they can try and convince him to get broadband since the computer could then handle it!

I would use the Intel Core i5 as the base for a new system build for my parents. This would be a surprise!

They are currently running an Athlon XP 2800+ CPU, 512MB DDR333 Memory, 64MB Integrated Graphics with 20GB IDE HDD. It is just too slow for what they are using it for and definitely not worth upgrading! They just bought a 23 inch LCD to replace the 17 inch CRT which doesnt help performance either.

I'm looking to build them something decent that will last them for years eg

Intel Core I5-750
Decent mid-range Motherboard (I favour Gigabyte and ASUS)
4GB DDR3 with lifetime warranty from reputable manufacturer
9600GT 512MB Graphics Card (spare card that I have sitting at home)
500GB Samsung Spinpoint F3 SATA HDD / WD Black / Seagate 7200.12
Corsair HX450 Power Supply
All in a nice low to midrange Lian-Li case and running Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Back in the UK I had a totally passive cooled twin tuner freeview box using a VIA Mini ITX board in a media centre case running MythTV backend. The MythTV frontend was an old laptop running Nvidia Geforce2GO graphics. All was well in the land of MPEG2 Standard Def TV.

Now we have moved to NZ, I saw an HDhomerun on Trademe and was smitten with the idea. The Mini ITX box does not like the HDhomerun because of an NZ specific bug in MythTV. It does not have enough power to commercial flag or transcode the video in the same decade as it was recorded and the Laptop chokes entirely with HD. I can't even find a twin tuner PCI (not PCIe) sattellite card for the Mini ITX single PCI slot.

The wife and children are not happy. I really need to start again using a decent processor that won't sound like a jet at takeoff....
