I'd have to pick Eketahuna. (Yes - it does exist, for all you doubters! Unlike Waikikamukau...)

I grew up as a child there, and am proud to say that's where I originate from. I also have Norwegian ancestry associated with the clearing of the Forty Mile Bush, and thus ties with the orginal name of Mellemskov.
There's no better place to go to meet and see the real New Zealand. The people there are just great, and the sense of community is awesome - for example: when Shell, and then Challenge, decided that there was no worth in keeping a petrol station open, the town got together, bought the station, and keep the station open as Gas Eketahuna.
PS: All reports of Eketahuna International Airport are false.
