Downunder: since Fast as your line I have never seen 5Mbps not even 4Mbps hardly ever 3Mbps ocasionaly 2Mbps and please dont mention international speeds

i am sure i am not alone with my problem and the frustrasion is huge !!!

yes i am only 2k from my exchange and it use to get 3Mbps constant

It was very well known that going unconstrained was going to have positive effects for some people, no effect for some, and a negative effect for others.

Last time I went to an all-you-cant eat at Pizza Hutt (about 6 years ago), the pizzas coming out looked nowhere near as good as the Pizzas coming for people who had paid the premium price. I guess if we all demanded $8 pizzas at an 'unlimited for one fixed price' deal, a reasonable person would expect that quality might drop somewhat.

oh sorry, i keep assuming Go Large, as thats what most people are complaining about.

Are you with Xtra? Have you considered using a different ISP, or a different connection method (cable, wireless, cellular).

YES, I think you do need to go on actually...

As a moderator in these forums you hold the ultimate power to ban/delete a user's postings. In the same way that Financial Journalists print a disclaimer at the end of their column:

Joe Bloggs is a xxx Company Shareholder, yyy Company Director and a founding partner of zzz.

This is called "Full Disclosure" and it allows the opinions of a commentator to be judged by the reader accordingly.

Other moderators have leapt to defend themselves and I thank them for their frank statements. In each of those cases, there was never any doubt or insinuation on my part because the respective moderators have been quite open about their affiliations on previous occasions. No offence was intended, but some greater transparency and even-handedness is needed at times on Geekzone.

You can ban me if you wish, but I challenge you Cokemaster to make a full and frank disclosure of who you work for, and in what capacity.

You are probably the staunchest Xtra defender here, and in the interests of transparency, you need to be upfront with all users on this forum. Other members of longer standing probably know this information, but I don't have that luxury, so I am asking you nicely to provide it.

I will jump into this, even though I am sleepy and tired of the entire day here in Las Vegas.

Moderators are selected by myself and works under my guidance. If I don't like what they do I simply undo. There were cases where I unlocked threads, restored users. But those are rare and in most cases I agree with their decisions. Otherwise I would simply remove their moderation rights.

As for free speach, we set rules since this is a private property. If a discussion is deemed way of topic, or if the post is clearly inflamatory or just trolling then we reserve the right to lock it. If it is gratuitous advertising or spam we reserve the rigth to simple delete it.

Every now and then people throw the "free speech". Would you say that a spammer that post four times in our forums about his mobile phone offers out of Nigeria is exercising his right to free speech and therefore we should not enforce our rules? As for the specific thread in question, clearly the OP is not expecting people to reply without starting a flame war.

As pointed by Tony, if people think they are not free to troll on these forums, they are welcome to pay for their own domain name, purchase server software, database software and pay traffic expenses every month, and then post whatever they want to post. Otherwise we have rules and people have to follow them.

I am a person that fights for rights, but I am sick and tired of "we is my free speech rights in this forum" posts every time we lock a thread.

You can talk and you can vent the rage on an ISP. I've replied to the post in question. Certainly not spam, but trolling.

Look at the question again. Who would reply "Yes, I like bad broadband, and I want to shut up"? Of cours everyone wants good broadband, but if you want a service that your ISP won't provide, then walk away. This is certainly different of asking "who likes broadband?".

thanks for your reply i have considerd to move ISP's i think that in my hunt for a good ISP is how i found GeekZone

but there is still no good answer to what ISP/PLAN to move to i truly beleave there all as bad as each other, Unless i missed the rundown on the top ISP's in NZ

everyone sais Move and list loads of isp's but to move to a crapy ISP would be pointless

perhaps we need a proper poll on Who to go to, and suport them with our feet.

...no thanks. That would invite bias on the site and nobody would like that. Besides, - at the end of the day we need arguing about ISPs and stuff. Nothings perfect and people like to talk about their connections.

Personally I thoroughly enjoy standing next to other geeks & checking out their connections. But at the end of the day -moderator is king. root access, yo.

There, full disclosure.

I am rather disappointed that this has come about.

What industry and whom I work for in general is confidential (additionally due to contractual arrangements). I can see the logic already 'Ah he hasn't said no so he must work for them', however I have adapted the policy of nether confirming nor denying.

Many companies have employees who browse these forums in their own time and forcing them (what you proposed) to name personal details (to some naming place of employment is private information). Additionally many companies do not like these public disclosure exercises because people then assocate what the persons views are to what the views of the company.

Why I 'defended' Xtra? Well, I personally wouldn't consider it defending. I have experience a reasonably good connection with Xtra and have stated that. In my line of work, I depend on connectivity and thus having a good, stable connection is a must. I must say that when you are uploading files a lot of images as well as FTP downloads... it is frustrating having to redo a batch of them.

I'd like to apologise to everyone because my connection got 4mbps in my speedtests instead of 200kbps. Obviously because I was getting higher than normal speed tests... Did you hear that... black helicopters flying over head..

Speaking of accusations of 'full disclosure' - there have been plenty of people who have made questionable statements like for instance when someone suggested that one switch internet providers when they were potentially suffering a line/modem/exchange issue. Such a choice might not resolve the issue for the person in question. However accusations of 'omg who you work for' didn't emerge then.

Some people have often stated questionable statements and I have often posted to seek clarification. Does this make me a zealot? I hope not, but you think that I am a staunch defender of Xtra or a mindless zealot... I take pity on you. Its strange because applying your logic to yourself would result in the same accusations being pointed at you (for another company)... Which I'm sure you wouldn't like disclosing who you worked for if your employer prohibited such disclosures. Of course accusations of trolling might pop up time to time too.

Additionally it is a slippery slope, once you challenge one person... you might as well challenge them all. Then there'll be more accusations of bias and misrepresentation because there are xx persons working for one company and yy working for their competitors.

If this was a democracy then of course you would have the right to know the background of those in power making decisions on your behalf. But this is not a democracy. It has already been said Geekzone is private property so the jobs of the moderators is the business of nobody.

We answer to nobody but Mauricio let alone a bunch of trolls. If he didn't like the actions of the moderators then we wouldn't be moderators.

It is not your place to demand any kind of transparency with regards to the private lives of others. If somebody volunteers that information then fine, but you have no right to demand it.

Let me sum up: NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS!
