This i expect. Tried to edit OP (remove the privacy statement i said, please remove if possible), my only concern is with a service like Disqus, there is no option to commend on reviews and blogs on this site without opening up to this service.

So don't comment then?

Plenty of places do exactly the same thing. It must be hard to function on the internet with that much paranoia blocking valuable tools from operating.

I can't view or post comments on blogs using Disqus from work as our firewall has decided it's dodgy and blocked it.

And plenty of other places don't use such a system and get though fine also.

I must say, from a user perspective it is very weird to suddenly have all this security around comments on the blog section articles, when you can post essentially freely in the forum.
Given it's all the same site, surely having you logged in should enable you to comment, - conceptually just as if the comments were another forum thread.

Weird? Sure... But then again second guessing without knowing exactly why/how...

Not second guessing, I'm sure there are reasons behind the decisions.

Merely stating that from a user perspective it's strange and doesn't flow well between areas of the site.
Behind the scenes they may be completely separate, but to the users it's all the same thing.

I'd suggest allowing logged in users to comment on blogs would be nice, and to force non members to have to log in via an approved method, or to become members themselves would be nicer.

No idea what that entails behind the scenes, or about the reasons why this is not the case.

The present method of writing a comment, going and finding an email to allow that to be posted etc, is a major obstacle to me personally ever commenting on blog posts.

Lots of different things...

  • Some people won't register on a forum to post comment on the news/reviews section.
  • Some people on the forums won't register on Disqus to post comments on the news/reviews section.
  • Comment in the blogs are a separate beast
  • blog owner decides what to use (Disqus or Geekzone login)

    • If someone is logged in to Geekzone and blog owner decided to use Geekzone login then fields come with data pre-loaded
    • If someone is not logged in to Geekzone and blog owner decided to use Geekzone login then we show the fields and an optional captcha
    • If blog owner decided to use Disqus then we use it
    • News/Reviews is my decision and I wanted something that would allow people from outside Geekzone to comment as well

How hard would it be to allow logins from either to all blogs/news? Best of both worlds then.

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. It was login before. But was a game against spammers.
