Fair enough.

One last question though: wouldn't normal, (ie legitimate) use of TrackBacks occur within the first, say, month after a new blog entry is posted?

If so, allowing trackbacks for that period, and then disabling them for that post would achieve the best compromise, don't you think? It would:
- stop the spamming of old postings (which are a pain to clean out manually);
- enable trackbacks to still be used on recent posting (rather than turn them off totally);
- expose only the "current postings" to potential spammers.

I like the idea of a trackback and the use, but I have found it implementation to be intrusive.

The emails and the geekzone confermation process of a new link, it's not that importand.
If my email had the message and a couple of links yes/no, then that woud be less time intensive.

I had an interesting comment on my blog moderation, from bob@yahoo.com (bogus email address if I've ever seen one). What's significant is how it came through without an email for me to moderate. Its gone now though (I suspect some GZ intervention - much appreciated)

You only receive an e-mail notification after the comment is validated - otherwise you'd receive an e-mail from each comment valid or not.

After a few days non-validated comments are deleted automatically unless you manually approved them.

It is based on your current IP address. For example I am using the Telecom CDMA in Auckland, and that's why I get the stars and stripes...

So, why not base it on the Profile Country setting, since the IP-based algorithm, while clever, is patently inaccurate? :-)

Because people simply don't write anything in their profiles? The IP location works ok, except that some IP ranges are incorrectly registered or not updated - but most of the times it is correct.
