OK I get your point BUT would like Preview box prior to posting/submitting. At the moment if I am going to do long posts I create in TextEdit, correct, copy & paste, then post, a bit laborious don't you think ?

Preview depends on TinyMCE - I will check if this is available.

FineWine:

Plus Underlining does appear in Reply box but does not appear in actual post. eg. I underlined posting/submitting

Fixed that for you now by changing the TinyMCE settings.

@gehenna:

Also, what about sizes and fonts? Can you imagine how hard to read this?

You're taking me right back to Geocities days.  May as well put a webring link at the bottom of the page!

Yes...

This reminds me of my pet hate.

the marquee .

It was stuck in one of my applications... Every time i see it my blood boils and everyone knows it. -.-

Added the Preview button to TinyMCE although the BBCODE and Quote won't be in preview because they are processed on the server side after the post is submitted but before inserted into the database.

Used appropriately, fonts and sizes improve readability. Take for example @michaelmurfy's Edgerouter tutorial where commands presented as monospace  are clearly separated from descriptive text. Even just adding some sort of [code][/code] tag or equivalent would be useful.

While I understand the limitation, it's a shame the preview can't process the BBCode as that's usually what I end up having to edit straight after posting.

"Used appropriately"...

Some users do power quoting with unnecessarily large wall of text. I don't even want think what they would do with colour.

The Code tags exist:

Testing the code tag.

but as above, doesn't seem to work for regular users.

As a mere mortal I hadn’t been able to get that to work previously.

I see
code works now
which is great for a geek site, thank you.

Can you add it to the list of valid bbcode tags in the help text on the edit post page?

Again Thanks - But WOW that is a huge preview pop-up box. Not as neat, tidy or nice as in the image I posted earlier from bruji.com but they use phpbb3 forum package.

At least with Preview we can now see if the size of the intended image is correct/acceptable.

I don't know whether this was intended but I found you can drag & drop images direct into the Reply box from your desktop as opposed to the "Upload an image" facility at the bottom of the Reply box. The only problem with doing it that way as opposed to the visable [img][/img] tags is that you do not see the intended image in the Reply box. You do in the Preview box though, therefore adding further text becomes a bit tricky.

Did you borrow the Preview icon from the "Masonic All Seeing Eye"

There is a couple of good reasons why this is not an acceptable practice (actually I blocked BLOBs before and will probably block data:image too):

1. Quoting doesn't work - only the first poster can use the blob

2. Cache is broken - image files are cached in the browser and CDN while BLOBs are part of the message so they have to be transferred each time from server to client therefore negating any work done to speedup the site with CDNs, cache-control, etc

I only discovered it by accident as macOS has always had a far superior drag & drop ability than MS Windows so I am very muscle memory used to dragging & dropping.

But your reasoning is logical and sound to block this ability.

Having used the new Preview pop-up window a couple of times I think that method is very clumsy and defeats the purpose of a Preview and as I have already stated not as neat, tidy or nice as in the method I posted earlier. If the Preview could be placed above (preferably above) or below the Reply box, upon user request, with at least images/gifs/Youtube tags, thereby enabling image size cheeking, that would make editing a post way more efficient. The poster only has to move his eyes slightly as opposed to toing and froing, clicking, between the Reply box and pop-up Preview.

I also can understand the limitations of TinyMCE. 🤓

Cheers 🍷

Would like Preview box prior to posting/submitting. This would include Youtube and image previews as well as text. Is it also possible to have text colours ? Also I can never get Underline to work.

Colour? Yes, it is possible. But I don't think it's advisable.

A vote for no colours here. One reason I like geekzone is that the fonts are the same size, and it looks clean. IMHO, emphasis should be restricted to bold, italic, and underline.

I would also like a preview function though, as cutting out multiple layers of quoting can sometimes get a bit complicated and I'd like to make sure it looks OK before I hit Post Reply.
