Right Noe is a classic example.

I had three notfications come in from these replies.

The first too I was too busy doing something to look.

Now when the third came in. I wasn't busy.

If you are busy, why even read the first email notification in the first place? Leave it unread and read it when you are less busy, that way you won't forget it is there.

Or create a rule to automatically move notifications to another folder and only read that folder when you have some free time.

I prefer the way it is now. That's because I'm not always logged in when I read Geekzone, so my notifications would not get reset under the new proposal.

Resetting the notification queue each day would go some way to addressing this issue and sounds like a good compromise to me, keeps telling you every day the discussion is active but without overloading you with emails.

BTW multiple emails don't bother me because they go to my gmail account which automatically queues them up under one message. Very convenient.

I quite like the way it is as it will bug me to the point that I move my ass to unsubscribe it (if it is no longer of my interest), or more emails will gauge how hot the topic is and get my ass to check it out.

I don't see the problem of the current method, but if there's inclusion of the snippet of the post made will probably be good.

The forum code is changed on dev. Redjungle's turn to code the service to email everyone. Testing later tonight, live tomorrow at some stage.

Email notifications should only be sent out each and every time a reply is posted only if the text of the new post is included in the email notification, otherwise there is no real point.

It would be unwise for GZ to include the text of each new forum post in the notification email, then people could just read replies in their email inboxes and GZ would get far less impressions on their website.

This is why we should change to the proposed new notification process....

Not only that, but... You would lose context, because you'd have to read emails in correct order, which is a pain.

And for us, the main benefit is that we can move from sending emails from the forum script to sending email from a service - basically database operations are much faster than smtp operations, meaning the pages should load faster after a reply is posted and load the system less.

I just don't understand why you want to receive multiple notifications one after the other?

If you aren't going to read the forum yet because you are too busy, why open the email?

It's not so much of a big deal for me as gmail handles emails with the same subject line different to most other email providers, so one click on the message will read all the other notifications at the same time, but i just don't see the point.
