Wow... Please hand your geek badge at the door.

It means that message list, message composing and message reading pages are now encrypted, so people can't read your PMs if your connection is being monitored (company networks or unprotected wireless connections).

That's a lot more impacting than email notifications with text (which as I said before are like postcards any admin can read while in transit).

O I thought "reasons" was implying someone was hacking or something. I know SSL is an encryption... DERP!

SSL doesn't protect against "hacking". It prevents people reading content that are not intended for them.
