If you have a 'like' or '+1" system then you should also have a 'dislike' or "-1" system too......

I quite like the Reddit system, but I would only have upvotes. Either vote something up or do nothing at all. Similar to a +1.
Posts stay in chronological order but show a "score" or whatever.
Upvotes could also apply to Topics as well as Posts.

Cheers,
Joseph

One of the things I want to implement is a "filter": people mark a topic as "QUESTION" and some (or the OP) will mark one or more replies as "ANSWER". Users can then filter the topic to show just the question and the answer.

Obviously this doesn't apply to all topics.

Just completely rewrite GeekZone in ASP.NET MVC taking inspiration from techniques used on Stackoverflow, Reddit etc.

Easy as bro... I kid I kid.

jaymz: Would it be possible to implement a function to vote up (or like for the lack of a better term) people's posts?

There are times where i want to show support for peoples posts, but don't want to flood the thread with an un-necessary post.

20 replies have been posted to the OP and 45 hours have elapsed and I'm the first to actually use the +1 functionality on this thread...

I just "liked" it to give it it's first thumbs up, but where is the +1?!

I'm not a fan of Facebook Like and Google +1, I even go as far as to use http://disconnect.me/about to prevent 3rd party tracking.

I would use a GZ specific +1 system though.

You can easily disable Facebook, Twitter and Google+ on Geekzone by unchecking the appropriate box in your profile page - something most users seem to don't know exists.

The setting is not mentioned in the profile page itself, but it is available in the 'edit profile' page. ;   ).

It always surprises me that geeks can't be bothered looking at the settings page to try and find things they could change.

Rename it 'hidden settings' instead of 'edit profile'. That should do it.
