My plans are to build a new i5 system to help with my uni work. The new processor will hopefully allow me to increase my productivity and be more efficient, as well as free some funds to spend on other components such as a better graphics card.

I bought my Compaq system about 3 years ago, after some hard core gaming and tweaking it has aged significantly. The AMD Dual Core 3800+ now doesn't seem to cope well with my other upgrades. In order to get ready for the upcoming release of Starcraft II, I consulted the Oracle who says that I will win the legendary Intel Core i5 and continue my path as the Protoss king.

I want to play games!

Every LAN game we play there is always someone with an under spec computer that has to sit out the newer games. The Core i5-750 VT can easily run every game out there and it would make a mean HTPC – we would no longer need to commandeer the flatmates laptop (she can stop complaining about needing it to study) to stream media on the TV. The best part is – we would have an extra gaming computer!

I have a mythtv PC with a core 2 duo processor.
We need a new PC to use for the family.
I would use the processor to build a new mythtv PC or a new family PC, depending on how mythtv handles the freeview HD playback.

I have a DVB-T card, but haven't tested properly.  I think the aerial might need moving to miss the neighbors tree, or replacing because of rusty connections.  I might alse need new cable.  The picture is skipping bits.

I'm building up a Virtual Machine hosting environment at home to run virtual environments for training and hosting purposes.  If I run a Intel Core i5 CPU it would become the backbone of my VM environment after purchasing a new Motherboard & Ram.

If I were to win I would use the i5 processor to start up my next project: a HTPC. I'm not really happy unless I've got some sort of project to keep me busy.

Thanks!
Ryan

I need to upgrade the media center as this is what happens at 7pm week nights....

WIFE - Put Shortland Street on....
5 mins later....
WIFE - Throws media center remote at me and yells fix the damn computer as it is rebooting due to a crash.
ME - But hun you told me stop spending money on computers now we have kids.

So for my sanity and life, I need to this so i can do an upgrade and run Windows 7 and spend as little as possible.

I think I could utilise this Intel CPU to host my TiVo, TeamSpeak3, and TVersity server as my old single core AMD and mobo is on its last legs - the network port has died :(
