Another update. First 12 hours at hospital were really good - probably because the operation painkillers were still active. At home I've been managing this with Tramadol/Panadol at regular intervals - and slowly getting better to the point where I only feel a sharp pain when I get up or twist the torso now.

However yesterday, when I was home alone (damn, Murphy Law) I suddenly felt this queasiness and spent 45 minutes in the bathroom, in pain and sweating like crazy. I waited to see if I would be sick but nothing happened and after one hour I was ok again. I was almost at the point of calling for an ambulance for a visit to the AH but got better before that. Feeling good after that.

Follow up with surgeon tomorrow, one week from surgery. If all good should be back in the office, slowly, from Wednesday.

Hi @freitasm Not a doctor but relating from personal experience. I have experienced the symptoms you had that is queasiness, sweaty etc when taking Tramadol. Not often just at odd times. I have especially noticed it if I take Tramadol on an empty stomach. I now only take Tramadol ofter food and this as definately lessened the incidents of this.

Thanks Mike... The times I take Tramadol, Panadol and the anti-inflammatory are synchronised with breakfast and dinner. At the other times (mid-afternoon, mid-night) I have only Panadol.

It could be something with Tramadol but only happened once in five days so far... In any case I am planning on phasing out Tramadol from today and getting on Panadol only from now until end of the week.

Tramadol is the devil for me. One dose will have me unable to lift my arms or legs in any capacity. Seems to take forever to wear off, weeks in some respects. When I had a tumor removed from my neck a few years ago, they gave me Morphine twice. I wouldn't let them give me more, used to make me so dizzy. Having said that, morphine is the best gift a person can be given during kidney stones. The first time I got them, I was living in student quarters 13 stories high. My girlfriend now wife came out of the bathroom to find me trying to climb out the window to end the pain. When the paramedics came and dosed me I have never felt gratitude like that before.

Hopefully, you mend quickly MF. Take it easy. Everything is under control here by the looks, focus on your recovery.

I too had a bad reaction to tramadol, the one and only time I ever had it. But my response was a ridiculous level of nervous energy - kind of like I'd had twenty espressos. The way I dealt with it was spending a couple of hours cleaning the house! Never again if I can help it as it was a really unpleasant experience.

I also was about to mention that I get very ill off Tramadol, I didnt know it at the time but when I mentioned it to my GP he told me it was most likely Tramadol and wrote me a prescription for an alternative but it wasn't as heavily subsidised but had zero side effects for me.

They gave me Ketamine for my kidney stones, man that was a drug on a whole different level.
