freitasm: Just wait until this very discussion gets 300 replies... You will get 300 emails. Then you will support the change.

Just keep replying folks...

That wouldn't change my mind tbh.

I'm with Chiefie.

I just don't understand why you want to receive multiple notifications one after the other?

If you aren't going to read the forum yet because you are too busy, why open the email?

It's not so much of a big deal for me as gmail handles emails with the same subject line different to most other email providers, so one click on the message will read all the other notifications at the same time, but i just don't see the point.

I dont open the Emails, but I do mark it as read, so that when a new message coems in, I know it's new.

Its not as easy to explain as I thought it might be but oh well.
ANd yes, you are right, it is much easier on google mail. Also easy on Exchange 14 and Outlook.

It basically comes down to preference in the end.
And I prefer the current implementation.

(Oh, and I get emails to a couple of smart phones as well as desktop clients, so I like to keep the unread badge clear - OCD I know, but I don't care :P)

freitasm: Not only that, but... You would lose context, because you'd have to read emails in correct order, which is a pain.

Note quite sure I follow you there - how do you loose context? Don't most email clients have the ability to group / sort on Subject / Thread and also by Date / Time.

I see Thread-Topic and thread-index as headers in the email ... I assume that's from the GZ end, rather than an MTA?

freitasm: And for us, the main benefit is that we can move from sending emails from the forum script to sending email from a service - basically database operations are much faster than smtp operations, meaning the pages should load faster after a reply is posted and load the system less.

Well - that's a big reason to change the current operations, then.  Faster good.

I am all for the new way because if I comment on a thread that is new and poular I come home to 20-40 replies. Bring it on.

I "prefer" it the old way as Gmail mamanges them well into "conversations" and numbers them with how many have come through but If I was using other email software I'd definitely want it the "new" way.

Also The "new" way would cut down in email traffic costs substantially! (for your end)

What would be nice is a daily singular summary update email with the full contents of the current watched discussions since the last post you made but of course, this would chop the "site visits" right down and subsequent advertising revenue. I like the way facebook sends out the replies of messages and comments in the email, something could be utilized here for at least Private Messages too.

Yes, I am thinking of putting the full PM in the email notification.

We don't have this, but look on the sidebar and you will find a link to subscribe to a daily email with all new forum discussions.

new way is my preference.

old way would be ok if the actual post content was included but otherwise was a waste of resources

If I don't want to get emails. I will unsubscribe. Pretty simple.

default to be not subscribed is better... click on post to watch.

Nety: Would much prefer the new method suggested. As long as I know there is a new reply to the thread I really do not want to be spammed with 10 emails telling me that there are also another 10 replies.

agree!  Getting a mailbox of 24 notifications of an update to a post and no content in the email is fairly useless and just as bad as spam

edit:... just fixed my setting on profile

Extremely happy with the new proposal. I wouldn't be bombarded with e-mail on a single thread, so I would be more inclined to watch more topics.

Is there some way you can have it so it has a unique identifier so that when you clock the link it resets the que? So I don't have to log in all the time
